Need to add more personal touches to my lounge. Please help.

I have recently redecorated my lounge. The curtains have a large floral pattern in a subtle colour scheme ranging from an olivey green to taupe to duck egg blue/green. The sofas are mocha and I have bought some cushions in different patterned fabrics that are cream and duck egg bluey green. The walls are cream and bare.

I want to add some art work or photos but can't find anything I particularly like. I also like the idea of lots of smaller pictures in an interesting arrangement.

I initially thought of lots of different art pictures/posters in colours that compliment the colour scheme but thought it might look a bit contrived to choose art based on a colour scheme.
I also considered black and white photos in frames painted to compliment the decor, but would it look weird if all the photos were of me, DH and the 2 DDs? Not sure I want to look at pictures of myself and the DDs are still young and my photography skills aren't great so there isn't much variety.

Does anyone have any better ideas? Thanks.

Do you have any old family photos? I got some frames made up for the some of the shoebox full I had of photos of my parents as kids, my grandparents, even a couple of great-grandparents. They're all black and white or sepia and with the right frames it looks nice.

There's no rush really, is there? You'll see some artwork you fall in love with sooner or later - just keep looking. It has to be something you love rather than something that matches the curtains, IYSWIM.

Thanks for the reply Hassled. It does seem a bit odd to try to match artwork to the curtains. I'll have a look round for some older black and white photos. I guess I could include black and white arty photos as well as family ones.

If you want to personalise it, how about framed prints of locations you love or have meaning to you, maps of your area, extended family, or those personalised canvasses of different words and places - there are some great ideas here.
You could do hand prints in colours that match your decor - a friend of mine had a framed print of her family's handprints she did herself, just used tester pots and signed and dated it.

I like the idea of places that have meaning to us. Could get a photo of where we got married. I also like the words idea but worry it might be a bit cheesy.

To add to CeliaFate's sugegstions, you could also try taking some close-up photos of flowers or leaves [growing outside, not in a vase!] or even fruit (apples/ pears on the tree).

If you want some really funky art work that will be a real talking point for visitors, google 'spineless classics'. They are posters made up of the entire text of a classic book, like Peter Pan or Alice in Wonderland.

I have four in my house and I absolutley love them.
