Are Jo Malone candles overpriced and quick way to drain my bank account?

I've found a shop but it looks sooooo expensive. I'd have to save for a candle, but is it worth it?

Hi, we've moved this into Good Housekeeping at the OP's request. Thanks.

I love Jo Malone products, but I also love my oil burner with essential oils, no need to spend £38 and you can change the aroma every day instead of sticking with one, unless you prefer to stick with just one.

That said, if the price is no object then go ahead, but as you say you'd have to save then I'd say save your money for something you need.

I'm a big Yankee candle fan and luckily for me there is a lady that sells all large jars for £10 down my local bootsale so not a bad price. They really do fragrance the house Grin personally for me I would not spend £38 on a candle...

We buy lovely candles from Muji (only has shops in London though limited selection online www.muji.eu/pages/online.asp?V=1&Sec=17&Sub=71&PID=5593). They smell divine and are only £3.50 each.

LadySybildeChocolate · 16/08/2012 20:57

There's no Muji here Sad When I say I'd have to save, I really mean I'd have to drink less wine and buy less cake for a week, which is possibly not a bad thing.

I'm not sure if there's a yankee candle stockist, I'm going to try making my own though. Smile

I find Yankee Candles rather paraffin-y and prefer PartyLite stuff.

Not all of the scents - some are too obvious for me but some are lovely, not artificial or headache-inducing.

LadySybildeChocolate · 16/08/2012 21:09

Are the candles from Jo Malone like this?

Yankee candle sell one which smells like baby powder, which is lovely.

Really sorry re iafc. I must have had a glass of wine too many as I have no idea what I meant or why I wrote it...Blush

Shearer Candles are gorgeous. They're made with soy wax and don't smell chemically.

I loathe air fresheners with a passion. Fucking toxic Angry

Thanks for posting those recipes, expat. Homemade candles and room spray will be my next project Smile

LadySybildeChocolate · 16/08/2012 21:28

It's alright, scummy Smile

I'll have a look, Lemon.

You can mix up a Kilner jar of room spray and then decant it out to give away.
