What natural products will freshen up my living room?

I'm conscious of a faint smell in my living room - I'm not sure what it is (but we have a dog and a toddler...) - I think ds has spilt a little bit of milk somewhere - not enough to create a big stink but enough for there to be a bit of a taint iykwim. So I want to give the carpet and sofa a good clean. What can I use that isn't full of chemicals? Obviously ds spends a lot of time on both sofa and floor and I don't want him breathing lots of chemicals in, plus I'm pregnant so want to avoid them for that reason (so I'm thinking nothing along the lines of shake 'n' vac). Any suggestions of more natural products I can use?

Hello again (from the nappy thread), a mixture of bicarb of soda and white vinegar (with water) is what I'd recommend, except maybe you weren't wanting to get them wet? Not sure what else you could do, except open a window all day.

Thanks Hardly - I have the windows open most of the time, which helps, but then I'm conscious of it when I close them. DH thinks I'm being paranoid and can't smell anything, but then he also claims not to smell anything when ds' nappy needs doing so I take all that with a large pinch of salt!

What if I sprinkled bicarb in the carpet and then hoovered it up, would that do anything?

Yes bicarb makes a great non-chemical shake-n-vac :) Smells much nicer too.
