Where's the best place to buy carpets these days?

Never actually needed to buy carpets before but need to replace hall/stairs/landing. Any recommendations?

IME you're often better off using good, reputable, local companies rather than your chain 'stack it high, sell it cheap' type places especially for a high traffic area like stairs.

I find that they tend to know a bit more about what they sell and advise accordingly. Although they are generally more expensive in the initial outlay I find that you tend to get what suits your needs better and it therefore lasts longer.

YY agree - find a local shop. Theyll come and measure for free and can recommend brands in your budget. We did that.
