Am I in denial that I'm a housework slattern but think it doesn't actually look that bad?

I've lived here 5 months and haven't cleaned the oven, hob or microwave except for wiping the crumbs and spills off the hob (which doesn't get rid of the burnt on crusty bits). I haven't wiped down the fronts of all the cupboards, only obvious spills twice and I think the sink and draining board has been wiped out properly twice.

I've dusted the sideboard once, the tv unit and fireplace twice.

I think the kitchen floor has also only been mopped about 3 times (DPs job) and I think we've vacuumed the whole house 2 or 3 times.

I think the bathroom's been cleaned 3-5 times. Same for bed sheets.

I haven't dusted upstairs at all - we have 2 bedside tables, 3 chests of drawers and DS has a small bookcase (knee height) that I've given a quick wipe over once.

I never realised how bad everywhere looked until I started making more of an effort! My home is never going to be perfect, I accept that, but I think it's all about raising your standards. I never used to notice any level of mess, it was only when I managed to get everywhere fairly nice and tidy that I've started noticing when it starts to get messy / grubby again.

If its not bothering you, then there's no problem. I only started to care initially because of making new 'mummy' friends who were much more housetrained tidy than me, I realised what my home must look like through their eyes!

Thanks, you've made me feel like a domestic goddess Grin.

YourFanjoIsNotAHandbag · 11/05/2012 19:18

Me too Grin

But I'm not

ProcrastinateWildly · 11/05/2012 19:24

Neither am I, but nice to know there are people who are...less so

Woofsaidtheladybird · 11/05/2012 22:14

You've cleaned your bed sheets 3-5 times in 5 months???
Confused
Really?!

Sidge · 11/05/2012 22:18

I think that sounds grim.

I wouldn't want to come to your house.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 11/05/2012 22:25

Eewww!

Sorry, but to me that is very slatternly - you did ask!

I'm asthmatic, so dust is a big no-no here. The whole house gets hoovered and dusted at least once a week, all bedlinen changed every week.

I do have a cleaner once a fortnight, she is a godsend.

Nanny0gg · 11/05/2012 23:58

Bleurgh!

(You did ask!)

Rainydayagain · 12/05/2012 11:28

Rock chick, i could have written that! Children change the amount of filth in a house. You have to clean all the frigging time.

Yes it gross, clean a bit more lady. Or get your eyes tested, maybe glasses are needed. :-)

nappyaddict · 22/05/2012 14:33

Well I've cleaned everything top to bottom and I am going to try and make sure I do this monthly. Although it does look a bit cleaner I don't think it looks dramatically cleaner. I think perhaps our house doesn't get as dirty as other people's as we are rarely actually here. We leave the house at 8am, DP gets in about 9pm and I get in about 11pm.

i think it depends on how big the house is and how many people live there, there are 2 adults 4 kids and 2 cats in this quite big 4 bed detatched house which means if i dont keep on top of the cleaning then you can tell.We also have carpets everywhere which i would love to get rid of soon. Also my 4 kids and i are at home a lot as i dont work and the kids are all under school age and are not going to school anyway,so if i only did what you said my house would be smelly shit tip.

The one thing i would say is change your bed sheets more often!
