Fledgling flyers - it's the month of May: if your house is a mess, try the Flylady way

ToffeeWhirl · 30/04/2012 17:32

Welcome to the May Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thank you to WhoKnows for guiding us through last month.

Are you living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? Flylady's routines aim to help you take control of your home, tidying and decluttering and setting up daily and weekly routines that keep your home looking presentable. On this thread, we do our best to follow these routines (although we also chat quite a lot and sometimes forget why we're here Blush).

There are three methods of the Flylady system, depending on whether you are new to it or have been following it for a while:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering in current zone
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

Today's babystep is to shine your sink.

toffee don't tease, tell us more!! Lol
bitchy Sad I hope you feel better after some much needed sleep

Well I didn't do much today but what I did was quite a biggie:
Got my husband to help me LIFT (not the usual drag) the sofas up and more them so I could clean underneath.
They are electric recliners, they have a metal frame all around the floor area on which they sit... Dirt gets under but is impossible to clean (even under the foot bit when reclined), dragging only releases a token bit of dust (laminate floors).

F@ck me, there was enough dust to fill the gap in Nick & Dave's heads and the rest of the cabinet to boot!!! Blush

Found some missing jigsaw pieces (only missing since Christmas) so 2 puzzles are complete again.
Loads of ELC play money (again missing since about Jan)

And 70p Wink

MummyNickleby · 06/05/2012 19:50

Move not more Blush

ToffeeWhirl · 06/05/2012 20:15

I don't know much more, except that he promises he didn't swear Hmm. I'll grill him a bit more and see if I can find out any more juicy info. He is very proud that one poster said that if trolling was an art, he would be the Picasso of trolling.

OP posts:
NickNacks · 06/05/2012 20:17

How old is he? :)

ToffeeWhirl · 06/05/2012 20:26

He won't divulge the details at the moment (watching a film with DH), but I will work on him. From what he said, it was a very obvious troll and he enjoyed all the mums ticking him off.

BitchyInTheCorner · 06/05/2012 20:27

Someone might have the thread. Alternatively u could ask HQ about it. They are fabulous.

ToffeeWhirl · 06/05/2012 20:34

Really, Bitchy? You think they might let me see it?

Have now discovered it might be more than one though....

Oh My goodness Toffee I reported a suspected troll, was it DS1????? Shock

BlueEyeshadow · 06/05/2012 21:15

Grin and Shock at Toffee's DS1!

Hope you feel better tomorrow Bitchy

Reasonably productive day here, and reasonably successful dinner so feeling OK. Not quite sure what we're going to be doing tomorrow - keep forgetting that it's a bank holiday and will have DH and both DSs around all day...

MushroomSoup · 06/05/2012 21:15

GOOD NEWS! My house is immaculate and it seems to take very little effort. Hurray!
BAD NEWS - My DH won't come near me because he is scared of me and wonders what has become of his DW!

MummyNickleby · 06/05/2012 21:53

mushroom big well done to you Grin
My DH wonders what's happened to me when I start cleaning... I had to fess-up about this flying lark... But now he wants even greater results Hmm

ToffeeWhirl · 06/05/2012 22:09

Right, have found traces of two threads that he posted yesterday. Neither of them sound anything like the boy I know and I despair of his spelling and grammar. One says: "hi my child in rly bad health i feed him kitkat and milk evryday ..." and the other - which refers to Mumsnetters with an impolite word normally used for one's derriere Blush - says he's just had a baby for free Confused.

The time is listed - and I'd very much like to know how he got onto his computer at 10.55pm ? Shock Angry.

OP posts:
MummyNickleby · 06/05/2012 22:46

Sorry but "feed my child on kitkats everyday" has made me spill my drink...

He'd have been "outed" in seconds!!

feetheart · 06/05/2012 23:30

Ooooo, I saw the Mexican baby for free one and just thought Hmm Confused Think I might have seen another one but can't remember what it was about. Didn't see any replies at the time so obviously he had only just got on - God preserve us from computer-literate 12 year olds :)

ToffeeWhirl · 07/05/2012 00:02

DS1 denied being on the computer at 10.55pm and he had his 'injured' face on, so I think he's telling the truth. Maybe that was the time the last person posted, rather than of his first post.

Feet - was the 'free baby' Mexican? Shock If it was posted yesterday, then yes, that probably was DS. Where on earth is he getting these ideas from?!

Mummy - yes, I think he would have been outed pretty quickly Grin.

Back to Flying: managed my crisis clean this morning and, I must say, the house looks astonishingly clean and tidy Smile....until you open the door to our bedroom Sad, where we dumped all the clutter. So, our mission tomorrow is do a major room rescue.

Babystep - Day 7: lay out the clothes you are going to wear the next day. This is a really useful habit, in my opinion, and cuts down the panic on school mornings. I lay out the DC's clothes too, even putting their socks in their shoes.

Monday may be a Bank Holiday in the UK, but we still have our routines to do. Monday's reminders are here. It's time for the weekly home blessing hour. Our missions this week are in the kitchen. Monday's mission is to clean your stove worktop (scroll down the reminders to find it).

Enjoy the Bank Hol.

Couldn't wait to look at housing register, so got up with DP, made us a cuppa and we are still top of the housing list and bidding has closed! Looks like we have the house. Grin

Will be back later with full To Do list. Will include though:

Sort out/ declutter airing cupboard.
Clean cooker (today's mission)

CarpeJugulum · 07/05/2012 07:12

DS up 3 times last night. Soft play either didn't work, or worked too well, or there's a cold in the offing. I have a horrendously sore throat and a bit of a sore head, so I suspect option 3. Sad Least DH isn't on call this week, so may be able to die a little in the evenings.

Crocheting is not going too well. I think I need to get a very basics book. I half remember it, but not well enough to go on - least my tension looks okay though.

Anyway, need to wash bedding and bath mats today. Oh the thrills. And possibly take DS to the park if it stays nice.

Honu · 07/05/2012 08:13

Shannara so pleased for you.

Toffee really laughed at your DS1 - sorry! Will pm you.

Today is frantic! Because there is no school I have ( v rashly) scheduled five 1-1 one hour tutorial sessions as everyone keeps wanting extra lessons and I have had to miss one or two because of ferrying DH to appointments. All 5 lessons were snapped up within 30mins of me saying they were available.

Really adopting flylady principles today - have timer on for only 15 mins on mn. More than half gone already.

< flaps wings ready to go and tidy up so pupils don't see absolute tipsville here>

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/05/2012 08:41

Shannara - that's great news.

Carpe - I found this very useful how to crochet when I was learning.

CarpeJugulum · 07/05/2012 09:16

Ooooh, thanks WhoKnows that looks good... may have another go today.

WAH job all done, first load in the machine. DS being a little difficult today so lord knows what lurgy we're in for. Still, DH has said he'll deal with him tonight so I can rest and hopefully kill off this throat. I sense brandy in the offing.

He's calmed down a bit now - so am MNetting to try to calm down. No, wait, cry for "toawwwwwst"; off to butter like my life depended on it. My sanity definitely does!

BitchyInTheCorner · 07/05/2012 09:21

Morning all - hope everyone ok - STILL haven't caught up with thread but just stopping by to pick up mop and bucket and get cracking ...

Back home and back to usual work/school routine for this week anyway (no bank holiday here today - we've already had ours - but another 2 days off for Ascension next week, then a long weekend for Pentecost after that). Looking forward to a bit of normality in June ...

Had a lovely (if a bit hectic) stay with friends over the border. Also (miraculously) managed to lose 0.5 kilo as per diet plan despite wonderful and copious amounts of grub and alcohol on offer. DD grumpy this morning because she is sleep deprived. Loads of mess/organising to do on return as decorator is still here for superficial/temporary tart-up project. But (as with anything in this house) temporary tart up involves a lot more than painting so he is filling holes, removing 12 layers of paint from doors with combination of heat scraper + hideous chemicals and replastering too). Even just for a tiny area, the mess and dust (and cost) involved is pretty shocking. Euros 75 for 5 litre pot of paint!!Shock Oh why oh why didn't we buy a modern maisonette???

Will try and catch up with everyone tonight but huge wing flaps to all in the mean time. V. inspiring to see so many newcomers on here for whom the system is working btw!

Toffee arf at your ds1's ingenuity!!

Hope you are OK Carpe [hands over honey and lemon brew]

Good luck with your day Honu Brew

ooohhh - I love sweet peas Feetheart - never had much success with them here though...

Congrats on house!! Shannara

Will try and catch up with everyone else later!!
