Fledgling flyers - it's the month of May: if your house is a mess, try the Flylady way

ToffeeWhirl · 30/04/2012 17:32

Welcome to the May Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thank you to WhoKnows for guiding us through last month.

Are you living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? Flylady's routines aim to help you take control of your home, tidying and decluttering and setting up daily and weekly routines that keep your home looking presentable. On this thread, we do our best to follow these routines (although we also chat quite a lot and sometimes forget why we're here Blush).

There are three methods of the Flylady system, depending on whether you are new to it or have been following it for a while:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering in current zone
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

Today's babystep is to shine your sink.

Morning all, quick post before the troops wake up, on phone so excuse lack of personals.

Have been keeping up with thread although not posted for a week, work has been going ok and have kept up with basic flying. Dd got horrendous sickness halfway through the night on Wed and continued every hr, we got through all bedding and majority of towels we own. Thought she was ok but sick again last night, although only the once. Dh now has it, hoping I'll escape unscathed with ds.

Feeling sorry for myself that AF made a return this morning after an absence of 3 years due to pregnancies and breastfeeding, forgot how much it hurt, owwww!

Right, ds making noises and don't want him waking the others, sorry so short and an all about me one

Flyingwithoutwings · 19/05/2012 09:57

Morning all Smile

Right, time to start flying again, AF gone, another chance next month. Cheer up etc etc.

Ta da:
Washing on line
DS bed stripped and 2nd load in machine.

To do:
Plant up 5 hanging baskets.
Pinch out remaining plants
Make DS bed
Strip ours and make.
Do ALL the ironing tonight as tomorrow I'll be in birmingham seeing Shane Westlife Grin

Morning Smile

Get well soon bitchy and wafflers DC's!

whoknows my mum doesn't live too far away- only 5 minutes in the car, so not too much tooing and froing. Will just be a pain when I'm working and need to get me and DD home for 7am for children being dropped off, but it is only 1 week!

There won't be much flying here today. Just the basic routines! I found my passport and birth certificate (which I thought I had lost) whilst declutter ing a draw though Grin

BitchyInTheCorner · 19/05/2012 11:59

Ds appears better this morning. Eating everything in sight which is always a good thing Grin but glad I made the decision about the race tonight. I suspect if he went today he would be struck down properly with touncilitus and tbh it is a nightmare as he is allergic to so many meds. Pj day here. Have only just woken up, although have had many sleepy conversations throughout the morning of the level of mum can i have a bowl of ice cream? yes So am also feeling restored. Training last night was definitely good for the spirit. Sooo much laughter. was good. About to move and try to do something productive. Hmm

hope you all have productive days.

CarpeJugulum · 19/05/2012 13:22

Work is going okay.

Food is being consumed.

Brew is being drunk.

Still wanna go back to bed though! Grin

BitchyInTheCorner · 19/05/2012 16:02

laurenamium · 19/05/2012 16:53

Grin bitchy

Hi all! I'm at my mums, and I'm itching to clean The house...looks like there will be lots of flying in this next week after all! I already cleaned the oven and dishwasher while DD was eating tea Blush I just can't leave things!!

BitchyInTheCorner · 19/05/2012 17:27

Grin lauren you're mum is going to wonder if she is in the right house when she gets back if you are no careful.

MaggieMagnolia · 19/05/2012 21:09

Thanks for all the welcomes ladies!

I've got off to a good start today, decided on a 'focus on the downstairs today' approach. So I've tried to pretend the tip upstairs doesn't exist and downstairs does actually look quite pesentable now - I've decluttered, slung loads and put a few things on our local 'for sale' board. Have cleaned all surfaces and swept the hard floors - feels lovely!! Grin

Tomorrow I will;

Hoover downstairs
Clean downstairs loo
Mop kitchen floor
Venture upstairs....Hmm

BitchyInTheCorner · 19/05/2012 21:15

Offs I have just reread what i typed earlier. That is shocking I KNOW the they're their rule. I generally use it correctly too. So no idea what the hell happened. Blush sorry about that.

Well done maggie

I am currently trashing the kitchen. Not sure that I will find the sink tonight though. Tons of baking todo. pass the coffee.

Ten minutes on craft project.

wow that was actually really rather a productive day after all. Shock.

No list for tomo. will see what happens.

ToffeeWhirl · 20/05/2012 01:27

Another fledgling failing at the bedtime step here too, Bitchy.

Sunday's babystep is to practise the new routines and read a testimonial.

Today's flight plan is here. There are no missions.

Off to bed now. I fell asleep on the sofa earlier, then got a second wind and stayed up chatting with a friend who's staying. My sleep pattern is all over the place at the moment.

Hope you get some sleep now, Bitchy.

OP posts:
BitchyInTheCorner · 20/05/2012 06:25

Mine too toffee. about to head off for some sleep now. When normal people are heading towards getting up. Hmm

Right i need to get this under control. I am going to focus on ONE babystep next week. I AM going to be in bed trying to sleep by 10:30 everynight, with the exception of friday which will be before midnight.

night.

CarpeJugulum · 20/05/2012 07:11

Morning ladies.

DS woke in the night (it got vaaaairy cold here) so I now have a crick in my neck - I look like Hmm and it's not deliberate!

House is a bit of a bomb site after DH looked after DS yesterday while I worked - and I did nowt about it last night other than round up dirty dishes and bung them in the dishwasher.

So today, I'd like to (but not essential if I don't IYSWIM!)
Blitz kitchen
Bake coffee buns
Hoover living room
Clean inside of windows
Deep clean downstairs "spare" loo
Bit of WAH job to make tomorrow faster.

Oh crap. Never going to manage it all. Maybe DH can take DS out?! Hmm Hmm we'll see!

MaggieMagnolia · 20/05/2012 08:16

Mmm, coffee buns sound yummy Carpe...

BlueEyeshadow · 20/05/2012 08:42

Morning! Yesterday was taken up with shopping, child wrangling - both boys were vile! - work, and getting ready for dinner party. So, downstairs is nice and tidy! It was lovely to have a grown up evening & all went well. :)

ta da!
Boys breakfasted
DW emptied
Bread machine on

CarpeJugulum · 20/05/2012 09:13

maggie they are a doddle to make (food processor mainly, then a bit of spoon mix at the end) takes me about 5 mins to make up provided DS isn't helping! and then 15-20 mins to cook.

Can pm you the recipe or post it here if others want it?

BitchyInTheCorner · 20/05/2012 12:31

ugh. awake. not functioning and my spine feels like it is on fire. wtf?

coffee and endless games of snakes and ladders appear to be in my immediate future. Hmm oh joy Hmm.

MoreCatsThanKids · 20/05/2012 13:59

< waves wings at everyone>

No proper flying here - some washing done - but that was DH

DD having drops in her eyes every one or two hours depending on time of day. Not at night tho' :o

major step forward yesterday - went out to Frankie and Bennys for meal with DH and DD last evening. Out. In the (potential) Dark. Not for Medical Appointment. OMG. Last time DD went anywhere 'non medical' was the last day she went to school (8thFeb). And we got free pudding cos I had a piece of plastic in my salad I wasn't going to eat it anyway

Stressfull time washing DDs hair for her backwards over side of bath - going to have to re think that one, and try and persuade her to have a shallow bath with her eye patch on. :(

House a tip (DCat3 is being sick everywhere - DCat 2 stood in it and walked it round kitchen - blurg) and have to do own and MIL shopping online and book (yet another) coach ticket for hospital check up Tuesday. And AF came for a visit - I'm too old for this shit

laurenamium · 20/05/2012 14:01

Day 2 of house sitting and I think my head might explode! 4 dogs, DD, a 16 year old brother, 2 houses and a horse is too many Sad

Ta da so far:
First dog walk
Drove up and checked and fed horse
Washing and drying laundry X 2
Washing up and put dishes away
Washed kitchen floor
Shouted at the dogs Angry

Still need to walk dogs again, dust mams house and Hoover and sort tea before bedtime routine... Is it bed time yet?

MoreCatsThanKids · 20/05/2012 14:06

And yes to the coffee bun recipe please carpe :)

BitchyInTheCorner · 20/05/2012 14:35

Life is crazy so i batch bake and freeze. One evening lost to cooking, one lot of mess but weeks worth of yummy cakes etc.

Ta da:
Cunning plan for getting ds to tidy up his stuff (need to finish off and then sort out putting into action)
laundry - last load before new weeks starts
ironing
folding
play games with ds
give ds bubble wrap
yell and ds and give him ultimatum about homework.
Be surprised when he is actually doing homework off own bat late in the day
want to crawl into bed and sleep.
Make up training kit for tomo
fb/mn etc

coostoonettle · 20/05/2012 16:21

Hope everyone is ok. So sorry to have been AWOL. No promises but I'm going to try and get back on board. Grin

NickNacks · 20/05/2012 16:23

Happy birthday to me! :)

Relaxing day with minimal flying just keeping downstairs tidy in between many guests popping by to visit :)

House is looking pretty good though :)

Hope you've all had lovely weekends- will catch up tomorrow

Brew for all and a slice of birthday cake :)
