Was slobbing around and couldn't get motivated to sort out pit.

Decided to try and imagine I was a visitor and view house from outsider's point of view. Went outside and looked at front door. It was REVOLTING. Realised I don't think I have EVER cleaned it in the five years I have lived here (ashamed). It is not the sort of thing you think about day to day is it?

So I scrubbed outside of front door. Then had to do the inside. Then had to do porch floor and skirting boards. Now I can't stop cleaning !!! Am even doing the inside of bins and have put kids' trainers in washing machine!

Best tip ever for motivating yourself to get started.

So, are you planning some back door activity for later?

Good thought Chaos. That will be even worse I'm sure. I have not finished porch yet. Am now washing down the walls!

I do hope someone drops round unexpectedly so I can welcome them in smugly Grin

Ooh, come and do mine!! I can't be bothered to get off the sofa to have a look at the door :)

innerstrength · 19/04/2012 13:49

If you clean your front door then you will WANT to sort your garden out.

You will not be able to restrain yourself.

I have restrained myself for 8 years. I reckon I can hold out a bit longer.

I cleaned my front door today (having not read this thread, only just seen it!!) I hadnt cleaned it for 4 years since having moved here.. it looks fab apart from all the paint that I have noticed is peeling off so now I have to repaint it.. & do the gutters to match... etc etc... you are right innerstrength, once you start you can't stop! I'm now trying to decide between a dark green paint or a dark purple one (i suspect dark green will get the vote, i can't see DH going for purple somehow!!)

What a coincidence! I have just cleaned my front door for the first time ever!
and we have lived here for seven years

We had a tesco voucher, so we bought one of those new window vacuums - its brilliant! I have cleaned all of the mirrors in the house, and most of the windows. Then realised that the front door and porch were glass, so I had a go at them. Now my fingers are all dry and rough and I've had to stop. :(
