A cloth used to wipe brushes (using turps type product) was put in machine with ordinary clothing - now can't get rid of the smell on those clothes put through the machine with it - have washed them again and it is still there! Any ideas how to get rid of it - help gang!!

I would get it out in the rain on the washing line if you have one.

If not try soaking in plain water and changing the water every so often?

Do an empty hot wash.

Keep doing the washing and use a bio detergent like Ariel. I needed to do my wash about 4 or 5 times before the smell went.

Do you think I could keep the load I washed with the cloth separate and just keep washing them until the smell goes - what happens if I put them out in the rain, will it help remove the smell?? Have dried the clothes and they still smell of 'turps'. I can't rid of it at all!! Grr!!!! Angry

put them on the line, the sun will do more good to evaporate it off than the rain. Try not to use a tumble drier yet as the vapour is flammable.

Was it a blue brush cleaner? Bio enzymes break down protein stains, but white spirit is mineral oil, not a protein, so bio will not help.

you may have to wash and air a few times. A detergent in a hot wash will probably do more good than a soap powder.

Wash.

Hang on line.

Leave for a week.

Smell disappears

(Worked on diesel for me)

Had a similar incident with white spirit. Hung clothes on line for them to have a good blow and it worked.
