I tried baby wipes but seems to leave dampened patches of dust on it, plus takes AGES
If I took them down and rinsed them would they warp?

Just put a sock over the hose of the hoover and secure with an elastic band and hoover them. Or a sock secured to a ruler. I would not wet them as they might go mishapen.

A mixture of white vinegar and olive oil -- more vinegar than water. Or you could use lemon juice. Wipe with the grain.
