How do I keep toilet in hard water area clean without chemicals?

We live in London, the water is really hard. I don't like having using chemicals to clean (having them around smallies, getting into water system etc), and most of the time this works fine. Use lots of Ecover, lemon juice, vinegar bicarb etc. But the toilet always seems to scale up pretty quickly and is super hard to get rid of - any sage advice?

diet coke, cheapest stuff. full bottle in the bowl before bed and flush in the morning.

No but watching...our old toilet is hideously scaled, and I have a new one so don't want it to go the same way.

I think something about flushing every time, even for the smallest wee has something to do with it. But I'm not sure if that's enough.

At least we have the dual flushy thing now so doesn't feel such a waste!

The only thing I've found that works is getting in there once a week with a scourer. Nothing else seems to do the job.

and do people take out the water before cleaning it, or not?
