Pyjamas- How Often Do You Wash Your DC's?

This is for those whose children aren't in pull ups/ nappies at night ( IME their pyjamas need washing more frequently because of the wee smell ).
How often do you wash your DC's pyjamas ?
Mine change theirs 2/3 times a week - I'm just wondering what other people do.

I have 2 kids, me and dh. Blush Grin
3 lots of bedding.
3 loads of towels, dishcloths and tea towels.
2 loads of ds's clothes - whites and darks
2 loads of dd's clothes- whites and darks.
2 loads of my clothes - whites and darks.
2 loads of dh's clothes - whites and darks.
1 load of Dh's running gear
1 load Ds's football and rugby kit
Then there's miscellaneous half loads like cat's bedding, swimming costumes, delicates, knitwear.

I do love the smell of clean washing and iron as little as possible.

3 loads of towels in a week? My washing machine doesn't see that many in a month! Also 3 lots of bedding I get but surely each set doesn't get its own wash does it??

CeliaFate · 22/03/2012 11:10

No, I'm not on a meter. The kids have double beds, so I wash each set separately.
Regarding water issues, I don't skimp on water usage and don't regard it an issue - when I reported a leaking pipe that was pumping gallons of water down the lane, the person at the water company said someone will be out in a few days to see to it.

I do separate washing rigorously though- a product of my childhood when everything was crammed into the washing machine regardless of colour or fabric and consequently never got really clean or looked nice again!

I'm puzzled why each family member needs two separate loads each. Can't you do all the family whites together, all the sports gear together etc?

I wash each person's separately as it's easier to return to the rightful owner when it's dry. I wash it, tumble dry it (yes, on the line on fine days!) then put it back in the drawer/wardrobe.

Sports gear is done separately because it's spread out over the week and ds's rugby kit on Monday is absolutely caked in mud which would never come out if I waited until Saturday when he does football.

if they arent full loads do you do a mini wash? my machine has a cycle on it for small loads which uses less water, not that it gets used very often Grin

yep i just sort the washing as i fold it after either tumble drying or having it on an airer or the line, fold it into diff piles on the table, one for each room and the relevant child takes it away to their room!

CeliaFate · 22/03/2012 18:58

I think they're full loads. They fill 2/3 of the machine, which is just right for the clothes to be able to rotate and get clean. If it's too full they just go round stuck together and never get fully clean.
