Pyjamas- How Often Do You Wash Your DC's?

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 21/02/2012 13:37

This is for those whose children aren't in pull ups/ nappies at night ( IME their pyjamas need washing more frequently because of the wee smell ).
How often do you wash your DC's pyjamas ?
Mine change theirs 2/3 times a week - I'm just wondering what other people do.

Wow no wonder we have a water shortage in this country with so much washing!

CeliaFate · 05/03/2012 12:13

We all have clean pyjamas every night. I don't iron them though, so it's no chore to wash and tumble them.

janek · 18/03/2012 12:02

yes pjs are next to the bum, but the bum is at most weeing last thing at night and first thing in the morning. the pyjama bottoms are not dealing with a whole day of inadequate wiping...

and second a nightly airing for the bum. no knickers!

BornToFolk · 18/03/2012 12:19

2 or 3 times a week depending on weather (ie. more frequently in the summer) DS has a bath every night and puts his pyjamas on straight afterwards, then gets dressed as soon as he gets up, usually, so there's not much opportunity for them to get dirty.

I agree with janek, pants have to deal with a whole day's worth of bad wiping and wee drips. Pyjama bottoms go on a clean body and DS changes out of them before he has a wee.

thisnickname · 18/03/2012 12:23

Clean every night, my three year old wears knickers also and my one year old is still in a nappy. On holiday they have clean ones on even if I have to wash by hand. I will also get my girls changed through out the day if they get a little dirty. Blush

Maybe I go a little mad I do two loads of clothes and bedding every day. I just like them to be clean my husband say's it's to much but until he does the washing he has no say!

YouChangeWithTheWeather · 18/03/2012 12:59

Now I feel well skanky Blush

Shutupanddrive · 20/03/2012 07:59

Every 2/3 days unless got breakfast on them!

BambinoBoo · 20/03/2012 22:35

Clean on every night.

mumofthemonsters808 · 20/03/2012 22:46

Mine wear theirs only once and they go in the wash, in this house we only wear any item once and it goes in the wash, no wonder I have so much washing !!!!.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 21/03/2012 00:02

Blimey, all of you who do new jammies a every night, I am astonished. You're nuts. thisnickname for instance . . . why? just why? What's the point?

My kids (6 & 4) have a bath every night, then clean pj's about once maybe twice a week, if they get breakfast down them or if it's gonna be a significantly hotter or colder night. No knickers either.

I was all ours every day, never wear anything twice except trousers / jumpers :/ bras. The children get there's washed after one wear whatever it is

winnybella · 21/03/2012 00:21

DS(10) twice a week. DD (3) is still in nappies at night but eats breakfast in her pjs so they need changing more often.

Tbh I don't see pyjama bottoms as the same as knickers as generally speaking they are looser so don't stick to your bits as much iyswim.

ClaudiaSchiffer I wouldn't want to wear dirty clothes so why should my kids? My kids have a shower every morning (3+1 1/2) I find it wakes them up and we have never had problems getting them to sleep. I live up north where it rains most of the time so in my option I care not about a drought we don't see. Should the UK run out of water would never happen by the way! Plus do you know how much water the water companies waste via leaks?

I grew up in a dirty house due to my mum's depression. We had to wear dirty clothes when my dad was working away and when he was back my mother made every effort to keep the house runningBlush. So you can sit there judging people for having a clean house and family but you do not know their past.

5madthings · 21/03/2012 12:42

umm twice a week maybe? more if they spill their bfast or they are visibly dirty, maybe less, they get themselves ready for bed, elder 3, ds4 has a nappy at night still so i help him and change his bottoms more often if they seem to need it.

i have enough washing to do with 5 kids without making more work for myself, i wash things if they look dirty or if they have been worn more than a few days etc but the elder 3 wear uniform all day at school, they come home and will change into clothes and they may use those clothes for a good few days unless they spill dinner down them, which they dont do very often, and if something a little bit grubby but we are having the day at home/in the garden then they will wear it.

they have clean school uniforms and if we are out and about etc clean clothes, but for messing around in the garden etc then they can wear something with yesterdays dinner on and its not a big deal! Grin

ClaudiaSchiffer · 21/03/2012 20:29

thisnickname, sorry to hear abut your mum, that must have been miserable for you. Totally understand that you want to bring your children up differently and you're obviously doing a fine job. I'm not judging you for having a clean house, rather that it sounds an awful lot of work.

For me washing the kids sheets is one of my most loathed jobs - they have bunkbeds, that's my excuse - so the thought of doing it daily makes me almost weep. You sound incredibly busy with two very small children, and to so to do what you do on top of the normal busyness of life with tiny's sounds like you deserve a medal. Smile

pinkje · 21/03/2012 20:33

My kids get clean pjs every 4 nights; they bath every other night so after every second bath they are getting clean pjs on.

They never wear underwear in bed - I don't understand this, is it not better to let their little bits breathe?

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 21/03/2012 20:40

Who puts a wash on everyday? I consider it an achievement if the washing machine gets turned on twice a week. Pyjamas are washed when I remember, which is very infrequently, or when DP remembers, which is more often but still not more than once a week!

CeliaFate · 22/03/2012 09:30

I do at least 3 washes a day. Shock

5madthings · 22/03/2012 09:41

3 a day? i do do one load a day, two if i change bedsheets, but most days its just one, how many kids do you have celiafate to need to do three a day? i have 5 and can cope with one wash most days!

Ragwort · 22/03/2012 09:48

No wonder there are so many complaints about how long housework takes, how you feel unappreciated by your DHs, how over-worked some of you mums are Grin. I wouldn't dream of changing night wear daily (unless necessary for obvious reasons) ! I genuinely can't understand why some of you think it is so essential - how do you get time to mumsnet do anything else?

I am very confused about why anyone would put their children in pants at bedtime, or indeed where them to bed themselves, surely there is a reason pj bottoms are loose!

PJs washed weekly-ish, along with sheets (which recently ahve definitely been seeing wee 2 too often) towels about the same.

There does seem to be a lot of excessive washing going on

5madthings · 22/03/2012 09:54

same here lockets i cannot possibly imagine how many kids celiafate has, or what on earth they do to need to do so much washing!
