I need to find a prop for my washing line, y'know, like your nan had...

Basically a stick, with a V shape at the end, to prop up a long straight washing line.
I remember these from the 1970's before rotary driers that you stick in the grass, became de riguer.

Can anyone help me find one please?

Argos extendable one/ adjustable one works very well. Loads of positive reviews of it on the argos site. Actually it works far better than most other things we've had from argos...

HappyHippyChick · 29/01/2012 20:07

Argos sell them for about £9. Just put clothes prop in the online search (on my phone so can't link - sorry)

rubyslippers · 29/01/2012 20:09

Got mine from Morrisons

JambalayaCodfishPie · 29/01/2012 20:11

I also got mine from Morrisons! It was hard to find though as they were stood up behind other laundry type items!

unusualsuspect · 29/01/2012 20:13

Wilkinsons sell the extendable ones

stressheaderic · 29/01/2012 20:13

The shop which used to be Poundstretcher but is now Instore has them dead cheap. Not wooden though, plastic but still strong enough to withstand high winds in my hillside garden.

Knittedslippers · 29/01/2012 20:13

I got one from Homebase and one from B&Q

BeehavingBaby · 29/01/2012 20:15

You get a length of 2 x 1 timber from the hardware store and put in the notch with a junior hacksaw.

charlieandlola · 29/01/2012 20:28

A hacksaw ? < faints> and runs off to Argos, Wilkos and Morrisons
Thanks all

I have just got a brilliant wooden prop, "just like Mum had" from www.clothesmaid.com I am really please with it.

slicedfinger · 09/07/2015 09:24

I got an extendable one on Amazon. It's not as nice as a wooden one, but does the job, and collapses well when I'm not using it.

i made my own wooden one [smug] ok i bought a length of wood and cut a 'V' in the end

fussychica · 09/07/2015 09:26

Wilko adjustable £3 bargain!

mateysmum · 09/07/2015 09:30

Wilko here too.

RiverTam · 09/07/2015 09:31

I think I got mine in either Argos or homebase.

TheReluctantCountess · 09/07/2015 09:32

Wilkinsons, Argos and Asda all do them. I paid £3 for mine.

somewheresomehow · 09/07/2015 19:25

got mine from wilko's as well

afreshstartplease · 11/07/2015 08:17

Wilkos here too, think it was 4 pounds

laineylou · 11/07/2015 08:24

Another vote for the Argos adjustable one.

Don't go super cheap else it will bend when you put all the wet heavy jeans out to dry and then you'll have to go and get the adjustable one anyway...

leccybill · 11/07/2015 08:25

Poundstretcher £1.99

JustinsBrother · 11/07/2015 08:26

Dp works at Argos and he bought their extendable ones. They were crap. So I sent him to wickes where he bought two planks of wood and cut Vs into them. I am now happy.

barbentain · 11/08/2015 10:35

I have tried all the metal poles that bend, break or rust. Hubbie stepped in and being an Engineer researched the subject and made 2 traditional props that are so great everyone we know wants one of his "solar drying attachment's". No more clothes dragging on the garden!

I need to find a prop for my washing line, y'know, like your nan had...
