justonemorethread · 25/01/2012 07:09

Oh my holy moly crap. That was the crappest night ever. I slept abot 1 hour and guess what... DCs both slept up to now!!! I felt so ill with a cought and everything. Obviously just about managed to make myself comfortable and starting to doze off from exhaustion when dd woke up.
Bleurgh....
Never going to get any flying done like this. I feel like ripping my head off and getting on without it, if only it wasn't attached to my body.

Linzer I had a good anti-procrastination last Wed - made docs appointments, which are today, and boy am I glad! It was supposed to be for a prescription and in case dd2 was still coughing. Well she's still coughing and I def need to see doc, so go on, do it!

Toffee DS2 is probably hamming it up a bit because his brother is officially getting to stay home? That must be really hard for him to see, especially if his class is less than ideal. But I agree with lInzer, slighlty different scenario... maybe try to tough it ou for a bit - although I know you've had enough of that!

OK, DD1 up now with a tummy ache.. great! hi to everyone else!

LinzerTorte · 25/01/2012 08:31

Oh poor you, justonemore; hope you're feeling better soon and that your DD's cough clears up quickly as well.
That reminds me about yet another doctor's appointment I have to make - for DS to see the paediatrician about his cough/allergies - but I think DH might like to be there too, so will check with him first.

I need to make an appointment to see the dermatologist as well, but as she's only there on Thursday afternoons I'll wait until March when the ice skating course has finished - although will still have to squeeze it in before the first communion class. And her practice has moved to a different town, which is further away and which I'm a little worried about driving to. Hmm, may even wait until April once FC classes are out of the way.

Cheerful Yes, little and often is the way to go - as I have to keep reminding myself. I'm making more of an effort to pick up after myself atm and have been surprised at what a difference it makes.

List update:
go for a run no - pavements too slippery (I went out and came back about two minutes later)
order birthday presents (as they need to arrive before Sunday, i.e. on Friday at the latest) one ordered from Amazon (will buy the other one at the toy shop on Saturday)
make dentist's appointment done
make optician's appointment done
enrol DD2 and DS on swimming course have e-mailed

It's lovely and sunny here today (although freezing cold), so I'm hoping to get out for my run a bit later as I won't have time tomorrow. In the meantime, will get on with my morning routine. Think I may need a Brew at some point too.

swanthingafteranother · 25/01/2012 09:30

oh, this is just not a good time of year is it?
Just I'm lucky I don't get sinusytype illnesses, but Dh had the same as you and he was awake all night two nights ago, and felt just frightful. He's on mend today though, he said he slept all right last night.
Toffee I had the serial staying at home this morning...dd tried to stay too, and ds2 has started coughing to imitate ds1. DD forgot to do some unfinished classwork/ homework and announced she couldn't go to school because she would get a detention, so I ended up writing a note to say she had too much on yesterday (ICT club, piano and she did loads of Mathletics) just to get her to school.

Chitchat fantastic to get all the painting done - my mum was a great painter of rooms! What colour did you choose? Hope you don't feel too stiff today.

done
two kids to school
chatted to ds1 who is v croaky

I feel exhausted already, every bone aches, despite getting to bed at 11pm, but I need to do the recycling Grin and DH is going on business trip early tomorrow morning until Sat afternoon so I need to get sorted...

BlueEyeshadow · 25/01/2012 11:04

Ugh, poor you Justone. We had a very bad night too - DS1 just couldn't stay settled for whatever reason. Suspect both boys are coming down with something. Sigh.

ChitChat - well done on the painting!

Cheerful - hope today is better.

Linzer - I have a Sony e-reader as it's better for pdfs than a kindle. I use it a lot for proofreading and suchlike too. :)

Flying - glad you had a good night and hope you find the CJ! Fingers crossed for tonight too.

Anyway, I need a list... Ta da!
Everyone in the right place at the right time!
Put out rest of recycling (missed by DH, grr!)
Bed stripped
Washing done and in dryer
Couple of hotspots

To do:
5 min rescue in each room
Dusting
Filing
Ironing
Hoover and mop
Tidy desk
Reading for work
Re-make bed

Better get cracking but will put the kettle on first.

Flyingoutofcontrol · 25/01/2012 11:28

Found the control journal, but that (and my WAH job) is all I've managed today.

Just a shitty day and I feel icky. Not ill, but totally dispirited, down and grumpy. Think I'm feeding off DS who is having teeth issues again.

Off to make cottage pie for dinner as it's cold and dreich, then I'm saying "sod it" to the house and putting my feet up with a coffee, a muffin and ANTM.

Hopefully DS will nap for another wee while so I'm not disturbed!

feetheart · 25/01/2012 13:13

Morning everyone

justonemorethread · 25/01/2012 13:37

Ok, will try to redeem myself in this next spare hour for lack of flying.
I still feel rough but I'd rather feel rough in a clean house, the mess is just making me feel worse.

So I'll go with someone's suggestion to use the power of 15 (thanks whoever that was!)

It is a good way to get motivated

To Do
15 mins - tidy kitchen and prep dinner
15 mins - dust living room and hoover
15 mins - freshen up bedroom/change sheets
15 mins - collect various discarded items of clothes strewn around the house and organise.

Ready, set, GO!

swanthingafteranother · 25/01/2012 14:08

I have to say I have achieved almost zero.
done
dw loaded and unloaded, saucepans
aimless mooching around and mnsetting
ltter in post
ordered greenhouse/raised beds(okay I haven't quite done that, but I thought I'd put it down to galvanize myself)
attempt to get ds1 to do science read to him from his science book
ds lunch
hall rescued
beds made (except ds keeps bedhopping
playroom rescued
need lemsip
what's for dinner fried chicken breast mashed potatoes and broccoli, something with blackberry and apple
washing hung out
load in

well done Just you are heroic!

LinzerTorte · 25/01/2012 14:20

That looks rather a lot to me, swan. I, on the other hand, seem to have come to a standstill after my unusually productive start to the day. [bblush]

justonemore Good luck with the power of 15; I often use it when I'm not feeling very motivated.

Waves to feetheart. Mmm, brownies - haven't made those for ages. They used to be my staple, along with chocolate muffins, but I haven't done any baking for far too long.

Flying Sorry to hear you're feeling down; it's always hard when they're teething, isn't it? Coffee and a muffin sounds like an excellent idea.

Blue That's interesting about the e-reader. I can't proofread on a computer screen, but imagine it would be much easier on a tablet or e-reader - although most of what I proofread is in Word rather than PDF format.

swan I don't normally mind DH's travelling and actually quite enjoy the evenings to myself, but he's just announced he's off to Sweden for over half of the semester break so I wasn't best pleased. Then again, he wasn't planning on taking the whole week off work anyway, so I suppose I can hardly complain.

DS is at a friend's this afternoon and I've been amazed at how much more I can do without him around; it all seems so easy with just the girls at home.

Right, must go and be productive before the ballet run. [bgrin]

feetheart · 25/01/2012 14:45

Ooooo, Scottish smilies.

I've just made [bbiscuit] too so help yourselves [bgrin]

Flyingoutofcontrol · 25/01/2012 16:01

[bgrin]

Oh I LIKE these!

ToffeeWhirl · 25/01/2012 16:29

Feet - I often consider moving DS2, but he's generally OK. As he went in happily this morning and came out happily, I think we can stick with it for the moment. I asked him how his day went and he said, "Bad", but then said he couldn't remember why. I think he's just making a point.

Have managed to get some paid work done today. Now have to tackle the house as that has suffered in the meantime. Luckily, I received my new timer today (the last one went missing Confused, so I can motivate myself with 15-minute bursts.

ToffeeWhirl · 25/01/2012 16:29

Missed a ')' up there. Sorry.

LinzerTorte · 25/01/2012 16:52

Only a proofreader would notice, Toffee. Wink

CheerfulYank · 25/01/2012 17:19

I am sick. [bsad]

Still hoping to do some Flying though. It's just a bloody cold but it's making me feel so miserable and tired.

laurenamium · 25/01/2012 17:34

Afternoon all!

Sorry I haven't been around today it's been really busy in rl!

Have read the thread but I'm on my phone so no personals! Wine for those that need it though!

Ta da:
Walked dog
Took mindee and DD to playgroup
Cleaned kitchen
Swept kitchen floor
Laundry
Went to visit a friend
Took DD to doctors
DD tea and ordered mine and DP Blush

Still to do:
Hoover
Bath DD
Paperwork!

BB tomorrow with personals!

LinzerTorte · 25/01/2012 19:46

Thanks for the Wine, lauren. I've actually just had a glass - after a night off yesterday [bshock] when I felt like I was coming down with a cold - and very nice it was too. Plus a real bargain at only ?2; must get some more next time I'm at Lidl.

Get well soon, Cheerful.

Toffee I kept losing my timer so bought myself two [bhmm] spare ones. Needless to say, I haven't lost it since.

**

Links:

Tomorrow's babystep can probably be ignored as everyone should have unsubscribed from the e-mails - if you subscribed in the first place. IIRC the sentence that we're supposed to take note of is the fact that you're never behind - just jump in where you are. But I could be completely wrong. [bgrin] (Will go and check in a minute as I think I still have several thousand e-mails in the account that I really only use(d) for FlyLady's e-mails. [bblush])

The mission is to tidy your bedside table and put out any hotspots.

Thursday is Errand Day - time to do the grocery shopping and go to all those appointments you made on Anti-Procrastination Day.

**

LinzerTorte · 25/01/2012 19:49

My memory was better than I thought. [bgrin] The sentence is:

You are not behind! I don't want you to try to catch up; I just want you to jump in where we are. O.K.?

ToffeeWhirl · 25/01/2012 21:55

Sorry you are sick, Cheerful. Hope you feel better soon.

Linzer - I almost bought myself two timers as well. Typical that you haven't lost yours since! It's brilliant having a timer again. I hadn't realised how much I use Flylady's "You can do anything for 15 minutes" as a motivational tool.

You might be right about my minor typo above, but I was itching to get out the red pen and, failing that, had to correct it some other way, even if no-one else noticed (but knew you would).

As it's errand day tomorrow, I am planning to get DS1 down to the library (combining exercise and education Wink) and try to get him to choose a book to read during his time off. It is always an uphill struggle to get him to read - and this in a house full of books!

Lauren - that was a busy day. Good for you to order dinner for yourself and DH. We had readymeals again and it was lovely not to have to cook or have loads of washing up. I could get used to this.

Fledglings: I was thinking about the next thread. Do you think it would be ok to invite those on the monster thread (which has shrunk to a respectable size now) to join us on next month's thread? And is anyone up for running it? We have plenty of time still, but just thought I'd get the ball rolling.

Off to tackle the before-bed routine now. Have just noticed that DH's before-bed routine consists of... er....reading - and that's it Hmm. Goodnight.

BlueEyeshadow · 25/01/2012 22:39

ta da!
Everyone in the right place at the right time!
Put out rest of recycling (missed by DH, grr!)
Bed stripped
Washing done and in dryer
Couple of hotspots

Dusting
Ironing

Reading for work

Didn't manage the filing, and still need to remake the bed, but pretty productive nonetheless. Tomorrow will be less so - DS1 just woke up feeling cold but drenched with sweat. Looks like no school in the morning...

(Continuing e-reader tangent, Linzer - you can convert big docs to pdfs online. It's easier on the eyes than reading on a normal screen, even a tablet, and wastes less paper than printing it all out...)

Get well soon Cheerful - there ought to be a whisky smiley today to add to the Brew ! [bsmile]

Swan - definitely sounds like more than zero achieved!

ChitChatInChaos · 26/01/2012 00:22

Toffee -Oh your poor boys!!!!! That must be so had for you.

JustOne - Hope you feel better and get more sleep.

Swan - a very, very light pink ? just to give warmth. Every room has a different colour, much to DH?s disgust Grin. He wanted Magnolia in every room. I was happy to have that for the entrance, but refused for every other room. I must say, I?ve never thought of adding mooching around to my tada list, might give me a feeling of success if I did!!! Grin

Feethearet - Thanks for the brownies

Sorry you?re sick, Cheerful - awful being ill.

Linzer - Everytime I buy a time DS1 purloins it and then breaks it Confused.

Productive day today ? painting looks like it is all finished. Just need to check first thing in the morning under daylight to make sure there aren?t any patches! Course I didn?t finish till about 11.30, then did a quick tidy up of thekitchen.

DS2 succumbed to the stomach bug last night, so lots of washing up of bedding needed today..... again.... (damn stomach bug).
Hmm, better get off to bed.

Goodnight all!!!!!

LinzerTorte · 26/01/2012 05:09

Morning all,

Toffee I asked the same question upthread (about whether we should combine the two threads next month now that the monster one has shrunk slightly) and have also said I'd be happy to run it, but am not sure whether anyone saw it.

Re the typo, I didn't mean to point out that I had obviously spotted it! Just that it's the kind of thing that you (as a proofreader) would notice and would feel obliged to go back and correct, as I'm exactly the same if I notice even the most minor typo in one of my posts. Smile

I almost always proofread my posts using the Preview function - it's lucky that I did this morning, as the Burns night smilies aren't working any more. It makes sense that they've gone already, but I wasn't awake enough to realise.

Blue I dread to think how much paper I use for proofreading! Admittedly, most of that is on my own translations and I really do need to print everything out then, as I compare the two side by side with a ruler and a red pen!

ChitChat Great news on the painting; you must be relieved to have it out of the way. Sympathies on all the washing - we had that here last week...

Off to Aldi straight after the school run so that I can buy a couple of their wall organisers to put wrapping paper etc. in. At the moment, all the wrapping paper is on the floor of the upstairs-bathroom-to-be, so we'll have to decide where to put it all once the bathroom actually gets done. Spurred on by the fact that we'll have six visitors in April, DH has spoken to a man (plumber?) about it and has to phone him back next week.

Honu · 26/01/2012 07:32

Builders still faffing about start date but I can't rant at them until I have massively decluttered the utility room and kitchen so everything can be moved. I never realised how much I had stored in these rooms and the point is that most of it isn't crap - I can throw rubbish away easily, it's just all these not-used-very-often items. I bought a dozen plastic storage boxes from Tesco but these are filling fast - in fact they are only tickling at the problem. Babysteps .....

I see some of you have recently bought timers. What did you buy? I have a mechanical one with a loud ring which is most unsuitable for 3am tasks and makes me jump at any time. What I'd really like is one that goes in the pocket and will vibrate - just like Flylady sells, but sending off to USA for one seems ridiculous.

Lifebeginsatforty · 26/01/2012 08:08

Hi all. I'm still here or back or something. Having had a really busy RL last week, I'm spending the week at my DPs this week, and until last night I hadn't actually touched the computer since Friday! Will try to catch up on thread today, and get myself ready for real Flying again for Monday. Meanwhile, I have finally started decluttering some of my childhood things from my old bedroom here.

BBL

ChitChatInChaos · 26/01/2012 09:12

Honu - I now use my Blackberry as a timer. It gives a small ping which doesn't make me jump, as most of them do to me exactly what you've described. I ended up spending more time watching the timer so as not to jump when it went off!

Feeling shattered .... again.... after the late night I ended up getting up several times for DS2 as he was crying and upset. Just want to sleep!!!

But.... need to carefully mop and scrub the lounge floor to get the dust and paint spots off and then start to move furniture back in. Aaahhhh, that lovely feeling of success!! Smile
