Babysteps and missions.

Sunday is renew your spirit day and seeing as today is new years days I hope there aren't too many evil hangovers in existance.

Babystep 1: shine you shine. yes we know this one but do you shine it the fat fairy way? cant remember? check here

And for a treat as it is sunday no mission.

Oh and can i just may 2012 bring you productive decluttering and flying so your houses step closer to those of your dreams and house work no longer be that evil monster that dominates.

Morning all Grin

It's lazy Sunday Wink and I'm the only one awake! Shock

Last night I went to bed without doing my evening routine, but then I couldn't sleep so I got up and did it Grin

Just a list and a ramble because I'm on my phone

To do:
Kitchen hot spot
Front room hotspot
S&s bathroom
Paper work
Declutter DD wardrobe- Shes gone up another size!

BBL Grin have a lovely Sunday everyone!

swanthingafteranother · 15/01/2012 09:04

My house is not too bad I suppose, just in limbo over the extension plans/kitchen re-organisation, so I can never "finish" any of the rooms. For example I am desperate to put some tough (clean looking)carpet down in the playroom but if it becomes part of the kitchen there's no point throwing away £400..Ditto a bookcase up to the ceiling in kitchen to house all the overflowing cookbooks (which I must have decluttered a million times) that has to fit in with new possible unit arrangements...
Flying so true, just listening to others is v helpful in sorting out one's own life Shock

Bad start with everyone screaming at each other at 7am over football on telly - or something like that...Dh went down, separated everyone and I now have to switch the telly off....Very peaceful in the kitchen with the radio [sigh] I suppose I better go and get them to have their breakfast...Blush

Flyingoutofcontrol · 15/01/2012 09:47

Bathroom cleaned to within an inch of its life.

Knackered now Confused Sad

DS will be napping soon so think I will stick some baking on - although I'm running short of sugar so dunno...

Don't know why I'm posting actually - just feeling a bit bleurgh now so thought I'd let you all know... Sad

ToffeeWhirl · 15/01/2012 09:59

Just popping in to say hello, as I've posted a long post on the monster thread and if I post another one here I'll be here till lunchtime! Sorry some of you are feeling overwhelmed by chaos. I know that feeling so well and the only thing that has finally changed it is Flylady routines, the DC going to school, me having some time at last and DH helping me. When I had little children at home all the time and DH out working long hours, it was well nigh impossible. I wish we had decluttered years ago and started our parenting years with a pristine house, but we didn't, so it has taken a long time to reach this point. Which is not to say that we don't have hotspots of clutter all over the place still...

I have been thinking about my kitchen hotspot and wondering how I can find places for all the debris that collects there: post, leaflets, children's toys, vouchers, loose change and so on. I do my five-minute tidy up most days, but I shouldn't have it all there in the first place. If anyone doesn't have a hotspot like that, please let me know what you do with all that stuff!

Anyway, off to watch the end of 'The Good Mother' on 4OD, then menu planning beckons. Hope you all have a good day.

PS: Linzer - can you remember that decluttering book you recommended to me ages ago? There's someone on the monster thread struggling with decluttering stuff and I said I'd ask you.

Lifebeginsatforty · 15/01/2012 10:39

Sneaking on while DS asleep - soooo cranky. Think it's teething as no other explanation, but he was up every 2 hrs last night so DH slept upstairs as he was up with both of them the night before, and DS joined me. [sigh]

Sorry realised I haven't posted since Thurs Blush. RL just means that although I can keep up reading the thread whilst breastfeeding or eating breakfast, I just don't have the time with my hands free to post.

Honu I can't imagine how difficult it must be to always have to put on a positive face for your DH. I really admire you for managing, because I know how bad I would be at that.

But I do know what it's like to feel like you can't actually get anywhere with the decluttering. I'm always planning in my head how I'm going to organise things better, sometimes I even write it down. But how can I collect things together in a place that is already full of other stuff, and where do I move that to? I've now got five labelled cardboard boxes in the spare room to dump stuff in to make space for the things I know I need. But then I have to find space for the boxes... Ok, so it's never-ending. But you aren't alone Honu. Fifteen mins at a time...

Quick ta da:
DC breakfasted
Breakfast cleared up
DW put on
Soup for lunch bubbling on stove
Chilli for dinner bubbling on stove
Tomato sauce for playdate and tea tomorrow bubbling on stove

Now need to:
Get dressed Blush
Put wash on
Empty DW
Wash up

Loads more stuff but not going to post whole list as already on kitchen door, and too depressing not to be able to cross everything off later.

Have a good day everyone.

LinzerTorte · 15/01/2012 12:01

Toffee It's No More Clutter - I really could really do with rereading it myself. You're doing an amazing job with the monster thread btw; I struggle to keep up with even reading it.

BBL - or otherwise tomorrow - I'm trying to stay off the computer today in an attempt to get things done...

LinzerTorte · 15/01/2012 12:01

I'll pop over and post on the other thread Toffee to save you doing so!

BlueEyeshadow · 15/01/2012 12:04

Lazy morning so far. No church because DS2 still infectious. I was all set for a rant about having my sleep disturbed on DH's lie-in morning when DS1 emerged at about 5, but amazingly we all stayed in bed until 8, and then the boys played until 8.30!! Shock Grin

Have done loads of laundry and made up the spare bed. DH has dumped more stuff in the shed and garage. Now need to find a home for a picture he was given for his birthday. Annoyingly, the landing is now cluttered up with a printer someone from freegle was supposed to collect yesterday but didn't. Grr!

((Hugs)), Brew and Biscuit to Honu, NickNacks, Just and Linzer and anyone else in need.

Flying we have tons of computer clutter too, but at the moment it's all hiding in the cupboard, under the desk and under the bed. Need to get DH to deal with it too!

Toffee - sounds like a lovely day yesterday, and yay to not panicking over MIL coming!

IceColdBitchy · 15/01/2012 13:18

can't remember who was stalking me but all the interesting posts disappeared. lots of trip traps about the other night, ably assisted by crazy posters.

As for what i have been up to in rl. You are far too sensible to be discovering that. But i am under no illusions. I am not a sensible one. That's toffee's role. I am the sweary slacker who put the naughty bar in Wink

had an early start this morning. Not appreciated. Not feeling great, so thing might just curl up for a nap before i go get ds later. Might as well. Other some laundry nothing important that has to be done. will try to focus on flying tomo. Tonight will do the before bed routine. Must do better. This week have been a flying fail. And currently accompanied with a brain fail Blush

Oh and I agree honu no one can hear you scream here and many of us over the years have come on to scream and take five mins. If that is what you need to do, do it. This is a safe place. Promise it's only me that is scary other then the scary fluff of the fat fairy

ChitChatInChaos · 15/01/2012 15:04

Hi All,

Trying to keep away from the naughty bar, but think I might have to have some Wine!

Yesterday I tried to follow the motto of 'don't put it down/move it to the side - put it away!' (As it was the weekend I didn't really want to spend time doing any proper tidying as such.) I did really well, if I had to move something out of the way to clear a spot then I put it away (or as away as I can at the moment). If I used something, I put it away. Things were looking a bit tidier. Lasted until early evening......Now I have to go back in and tidy up the kitchen again. Grin But I was sooo cold when we got in from our afternoon at the park that I just wanted to huddle up on the sofa.

Haven't been following my routines, or doing the babysteps, so will restart. I think I will follow your example Honu and set up a weekly speadsheet with the routines, then can tick them off as I go. I'm so rubbish at following routines - that's my biggest problem.

DH will be travelling later this week, and will be away until early February so don't really want to do much today either, just have some family time.

Might have a cup of tea first though!!!! Wink

justonemorejingle · 15/01/2012 19:22

Toffee the kitchen hot spot you are talking about is one of my pet hates!
I try as much as possible no to accumulate stuff (my kitchen is just about big enough for two people to stand in it!).

Sometimes while I'm cooking dinner I'll look at the inevitable corner of clutter and will set about putting everything in its place.

I don't even know how toys get in to my kitchen, it's not as if anyone plays in there! Sometimes I'm ruthless, eg - I'll never find that other barbie shoe so I'll just throw it away, then probably hoover up the other shoe at some point!
Leaflets - most of them in my kitchen can be chucked. Otherwise I have a drawer in the living room where I keep the essential ones.
I have become a ruthless de-clutterer, and I can honestly say I don't think I've ever regretted any of the stuff I've gotten rid of.

Now loose change.. that really does drive me nuts, you can't really throw away pence and pennies!!!! But I have a little box for these in the bedroom and take them in there.

For me zero tolerance is the only way in such a tiny kitchen.

Anywayyy, question on flylady methods
Do you lot really really really just follow the routines and nothing else?

I just can't imagine leaving something unfinished, I'd rather have a tidy hallway and not-yet tackled living room than a half-done hallway and living room.
But I'm beginning to see that is not in fly lady spirit. I should try really really hard just to stick to ther routines and little else?
Just wondering...

laurenamium · 15/01/2012 19:51

I just put out that very same kitchen hotspot toffee, and I've ordered a blue porcelain butter dish the same as my bread bin to go on top for spare keys, garage key fob, loose change etc to go in which is going to live right where the hotspot develops in an attempt to stop us all dumping letters, DD paintings, leaflets and charity bags there...it's either going to work, just add to the mess or divert the hotspot elsewhere but only time will tell!Hmm

Back to work tomorrow but I'm going from working a 50 hour week to a 25 hour week so I'm looking forward to one on one time with DD, I've booked us in to a baby music class and a toddler gym class and I plan to get her back into swimming again when I feel brave enough to wear a swimsuit when I buy DD new waterproof nappies and a swimsuit in the right size. She does actually have one buy it's a bikini?!Confused bought by her biological fathers mum...but that's a whole other story!)

I did my very first meal plan today for next week ready for me to food shop tomorrow! As a good housewife (there's lots of work still to be done Grin) and because I'm working less hours I'm going to attempt to do all the evening meals so DP doesn't have to get take aways when he gets in because I've eaten at 4:30 with the kids, I've been an awful partner!Grin

Ta da:
S&s bathroom
Washing/ drying laundry *2
Kitchen hotspot
Front room hotspot
Put away DD toys and books
Baked bite size scones for mindees and me
Meal planned! For next week

Hope everyone is ok!

Done
busy morning getting 3 dcs to school - I don't know why I always manage to have some crisis before the children leave...today it was discovering ds2 had thick slabs of mud all over his school shoes, cos he hadn't used (or DH hadn't [grr] the already muddy trainers in the garden...
also v. efficiently but not so efficiently tried to wash and dry dd's school skirt, before discovering she had two perfectly good clean ones in her cupboard (but she wanted that one because it had blue butterflies on it, so didn't mention she had two more....[grrr]
also ds2 had a strop about wanting to run a Marathon round the block with me first thing..Shock I would have...if he hadn't then had strop about computer....
then he poured water down his front as we left the house

Also got up with ds1 first thing and was all sweetness and light getting him ready and off to school for 7.45, so that must have taken it out of me....
Hmm

however good dones
read poetry with ds1
sympathised with dd when she stubbed her toe
got dressed in 10 secs flat at 8.40
washed two kids
remembered to send violin with ds1

Can't think further than my nose now...Confused Yesterday I was lookign forward enthusiastically to Monday and all the things I was going to get done...but now feel distinctly unmotivated... Still no car either, it is still being mended...at vast expense

laurenamium · 16/01/2012 09:34

Wow it's very quiet on here! Hope you got some sleep bitchy Smile

To do:
Home bleugh
Hoover
Wash down doors
Clean mirror
DD wardrobe declutter
Kids to painting tots
Food shop
Cook tea
Walk dog
Mission

BBL

swanthingafteranother · 16/01/2012 09:34

Right, I am going to tackle the washing in the outside recycling bin Blush
and take sheets off the dcs' beds

laurenamium · 16/01/2012 09:36

Cross posts with swan good luck with motivation today!!

swanthingafteranother · 16/01/2012 09:36

you sound very motivated Lauren - and yes it is more economical to have a ready meal in the fridge than to end up with a takeaway...sometimes when I'm perfectionist about meal plannign it back fires
Glad to hear you will have the extra time to do things with dd like swimming.

laurenamium · 16/01/2012 10:01

Thanks swan! I think it's because I'm really noticing the difference in the house from following an evening routine and doing the weekly home bleugh so I'm spurred on to do more!

ToffeeWhirl · 16/01/2012 10:45

Just dashing in quickly before I take DS1 to school (late cos of CBT appt). Not sure if I'll get him there or not, but I'm going to try. DH has gone off to his new job. I'm meant to be having a birthday lunch with a good friend, but that depends on whether DS goes to school Hmm. Not a lot of Flying going on here today Blush.

laurenamium · 16/01/2012 10:48

Happy birthday toffee! Wine and Flowers

ToffeeWhirl · 16/01/2012 10:50

Oooh, thanks, Lauren Smile.

NickNacks · 16/01/2012 11:02

Happy birthday Toffee

LinzerTorte · 16/01/2012 11:16

Happy birthday, Toffee! Hope you manage to get out for your lunch.

As I've just said on the other thread, not much FLYing going on here either with three of us ill and DS home as well (he didn't want to go to kindergarten, I didn't feel up to taking him or even trying to persuade him, and DH is helpfully in Romania).

BlueEyeshadow · 16/01/2012 11:23

Happy birthday Toffee!

I've spent all morning trying to find a half decent birthday card for DS1. Why is it every year that his age is the one with all the boring cards?! Confused

Now it's time to collect DS2 and nothing else is done. Still, had positive comments from my Mum on the state of the house...
