Try Dunelm brushed cotton bed linin. It is HEAVEN.

I swear by Dawsons Department Store - their delivery and customer service is excellent. And lots of lovely reductions too.

As it happens, I decided to treat myself to some really nice bed linen, and having checked out M&S, John Lewis et al, and being disappointed that I couldn't feel the quality, I went to our local shop of www.kingofcotton.co.uk/?kw=king%20of%20cotton&fl=512905&ci=7634455103&network=s&gclid=CMONrOWElq0CFYQLfAodnWyeoQ just yesterday. (Very lucky to have their shop on my doorstep).

They have swatches of the different thread counts to feel, and I went with 400tc Ivory Egyptian cotton bed linen. Fitted sheet, duvet cover and Oxford pillowcases came to £78, a very reasonable price I think, and the quality is excellent.

They supply many top hotel chains, so quality has to be good.

I washed them this morning, and am about to iron them, can't wait to put them on the bed!

I'll be going back for more...

Sadly it's coffee, tea, make up, felt pens, jam donuts and a somewhat dippy puberty reaching DD that wreck sheets here. Not to mention a DH who doesn't cut his toe nails.

lisianthus · 28/12/2011 15:25

Just don't get cotton sateen. It's a smooth finish which allows a higher thread count, but it isn't as strong and doesn't last as long.

harbingerofdoom · 29/12/2011 17:40

Thank you for all the ideas and advise. I still havn't bought any but am fast getting the feeling that you get what you pay for!
Would items described as 'special purchase' be seconds? If so what would be wrong with sheets (pillow cases may have wonky seams)?
Do not want sateen but do wish I could feel the thickness, which isn't the same as thread count.

Special purchase iirc is stuff bought in for the sale.

The white company sale is on, go for 300 or higher thread count.

Just off to look....
