Has anyone got any good tips? It's a steel based iron with black scorch marks. Really need to clean it before I start on DP's shirts!
Thank you!

Hi,Lakeland do a HOT IRON CLEANER wich is brilliant. its about £4. You squirt a small amount on an old cloth then rub the hot iron over it. It really does work!

I will second the hot iron cleaner, but am told that an ordinary bar of soap will work too.

Get 'Faultless Iron Soleplate Cleaner' - available on Amazon but I got it cheaper on eBay.

It is AMAZING! My iron was pretty bad, but this stuff got it pretty much looking like new. I used an old facecloth to apply it, dead easy. Smells a bit, but so worth it. It was recommended to me by a fellow MNetter!

I got some special iron cleaning cloths that worked a treat. Can't remember where I got them though.
Until you get it clean you can always iron through a tea towel/muslin.

I can also vouch for the Lakeland product. It is called Hot Iron Cleaner by Faultless so probably the same as the item mentioned by another poster from Amazon.

Usually end up having to use it after my hubby has ironed a shirt Wink

do you mean it is stainless steel soleplate?

the iron cleaners I've seen have been a grease or wax that you rub on. Not overly impressed. I used to find the aluminium base ones worse for marks. It might have been due to the water. Have you tried using deionised water (= distilled, near enough) which you can get on the motoring accessory shelves in a big container? Sometimes a nylon scouring pad will help (on a cold iron)

Iron cleaning cloths from Bettaware do the job with no grease/cream etc

Thank you all - I'll check out amazon and lakeland!

Normal bar of soap on a hot iron. Then iron onto cloth until it is all gone. It works but smells awful.
