Please tell me what food processor I want for Christmas

I am overwhelmed with the choices - I thought I wanted one with an open bowl, a la cookery programmes, but they seem to be very expensive. DH is a generous man but I wouldn't expect him to spend a lot more than £100, but I could contribute some of my Xmas money towards it if it was really nice.

I already have a set that has - stick thing for whizzing up soups, with a whisk attachment and a small food processor (with a single blade) nothing fancy, I couldn't make pastry in it.

Any recommendations?

I have a kenwood. i love it. Also they have great after sale service. i broke it by trying to blend half a kilo of frozen mango cubes every day for a week. they replaced the broken bit free of charge no questions even though it was me being an idiot

Thats quite cheap and a good one, I have one at work that I use nearly daily and its lasted for years. I have a newer version of it at home, its shinier and has a better turning dial but has all same attachments!!

I really like my dualit food processor. Works very well & looks nice on the worktop too.

l have had a Kitchenaid for 25years. With the attachments it does so many things and it is built to last. A blender is the only other gadget - you can get choppers, raters , icecream maker, pasta rollers ,mincer. miller to name but a few. It therefore frees up spaceThey are expensive as is a Magimix but they are worth every penny. Both have exellent after sales and everything can be replaced. Try second hand - l've seen the odd one. Otherwise l'edgo cheap - see what Good Housekeeping recommends. l would be very warey about "badged" mixers or chef endorced. l dout they use them. l have a £3:99 hand blender form Tesco which l use for cream- or small and quick beating - just my opinion - my mum would have swore by her Kenwood Chef but l never got on with it - Horses for courses

lol does your kitchen aid wash up too!?! thats an extensive list it sounds brill.. my processor seems shoddy in comparison!!
yeah dont buy a celebrity endorsed one, its just crap stuff with swirly lettering on it to make it look good..!!! (although anthony worrel thompson does good pans!)x

I got this Kenwood Prospero Compact last Xmas and it's great! it does everything! comes with a liquidiser attachment/jug and a food processor bowl with various grating/slicing blades too. makes fab cakes too.

it sits in the corner nicely without taking up loads of space.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 09/12/2011 15:46

I think the Kenwood Compact is the one I went for in the end, DH is sorting it out, so hopefully he's on the case! Thanks everyone.

we just bought a kitchenaid last week. i haven't used it yet, but my 11yo spied it with glee and has been using it constantly ever since. prior to this i've been doing everything by hand with the exception of a cheap hand blender for soup.

i am in love with the damn thing as it means she can cook on her own without bleating constantly how hard it is to cream butter and sugar. Blush

this weekend i am going to play with it. we bought it because of the amount of gadgets that can be fixed etc, and figured if it was going to be the only one we buy, we might as well pay a bit more. it was also on special, which helped a lot. Grin
