Fledglings dreaming of a FLY Christmas - December's fledgling flyers thread

BlueEyeshadow · 30/11/2011 13:25

Welcome flyers one and all, old and new, to the December thread! As the advent calendars go up, let's beat the CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and FLY through Christmas into the New Year (or have a go at it, anyway...)!

We take a three-pronged approach (and a large pinch of salt) to the FLYlady system:

-babysteps
-babysteps and 15 mins' decluttering
-babysteps and missions

The website is here: FlyLady - if you haven't had a look at it for a while it's worth a gander as the design and layout have changed for the better recently.

Whatever you do, though, don't sign up for the emails or your inbox will be bursting within seconds. Or so I'm led to believe... I will post the links to the babystep and mission for each day (the first ones to follow this evening) and there'll be plenty of chat, Wine , Brew and Biscuit along the way.

A big thank you to Darkness for leading us through November with so much fun! Thanks

Oh, and whoknows that's great about decluttering the garden - I always loose interest in the garden from nov onwards, but it would look better a bit more clear, I will try to fit that in this week...

swanriver · 04/12/2011 17:47

today has been a pretty rubbish day all in all (don't mention the untaxed car Hmm which we noticed just as we were setting off to Homebase.
BUUT big but, we have put up the Xmas tree and decorated it! That has to be a first in the Swan household, usually it is the last weekend before Xmas and sooo much aggro. Dd's friends have been helping.

Also
done
made collage with ds1 for hs homework. He was crying his eyes out over it[sigh] The instructions were Make A Collage. Mum I don't know whaaat to dooo. We copied Van Gogh's yellow chair.
also lots of science revision.
also church Grin that was a real relief after family life, I felt quite cheerful during mass.

sooo much aggro from all corners, I feel completely stressed by this horrid messy house. However, I know this is just a state of mind, and I must CHILL! and drink some sherry.

swanriver · 04/12/2011 17:52

Lauren bet you gran really appreciated having you there though.
OFM amazing, bet the running is the only thing keeping you sane Wink Just thinkng about next week sends me out in a cold sweat, so I think you are utterly amazing to combine it with work too. Another party invite has come through, so I've turned that down too Sad

swanriver · 04/12/2011 17:53

Abird well done on having friends round.

abirdinthehand · 04/12/2011 18:00

swan sorry it's been a tough day but well done on the tree! Do you have one corner of your house you like, that makes you happy?

abirdinthehand · 04/12/2011 18:04

I'm about to set up this control journal thingy - so is it basically lists of routines etc?

Fuzzled · 04/12/2011 20:36

Hey all, checking in with a shiny sink Xmas Wink Acomplished all my to do list today - we'll see how tomorrow goes though as I'm back to work.

abird have a look at this it's templates for the start of control journals.

I'm also planning to put address lists and phone numbers in mine and menu lists (and lists of dishes I can cook!) to make life easier. Maybe also a list of how to clean each room... just so DH can see what to do Xmas Grin

So many options and so much stationery to buy!

OverflowingFestiveMum · 04/12/2011 20:56

evening all
well, ds2 ended up falling asleep on the sofa at about 4pm....had a loooong nap, which was a wonderful chance to catch up on stuff....woke briefly for tea, then asked to go to bed...all good....except he has now just woken up and declared that it must be morning....not good! That's the price we pay for a couple of hours peace LOL

Have devised cunning plan to survive the week ahead which consists of going to Morrisons between school and singing club pick ups tomorrow and stocking up on very easy dinners for the week Blush I'm sure one week of over priced, over processed food wont kill us LOL

right, have hoovered lounge, done two more loads of washing, ordered present for DH and a new blind for littlies room...
Will attempt to get early night tonight as I think sleep is needed as it will be in short supply next week.

BBtomorrow Grin

DonkeyTeapot · 04/12/2011 22:04

Hi everyone,

Another day without any FLYing whatsoever here. Up since 5am with DD. I decided the f*ing sink could go shine itself. Monday tomorrow, and we go away Wednesday, so the to do list is as follows:

Choose posh dress & start packing
Tidy the pigsty living room
Attempt some Christmas shopping

I know there isn't much FLYing there, but item 2 promises to be a lengthy one...

OuchHolly · 04/12/2011 22:05

I have been playing in the snow. In a snow storm Xmas GrinXmas Grin very happy and chilled out atm. Early start tomo and need to do lots so going to try to get to bed asap.

OFM try not to kill yourself. How you manage to achieve everything you do baffles me sometimes. I am beginning to assume you are just superwoman or something. Good Luck for next week!

ChitChattingElf · 04/12/2011 22:09

Who Knows ? Thank you for the welcome. I have really got to get a start on decluttering. Any tips??

OFM ? wow, that pudding had better taste great after all that effort!!! You certainly have been busy today.

Ellie ? I?m jealous, a cleaner. Is it true that you tidy more before they?re due in Xmas Grin

Lauren ? that?s so sad. You certainly have been busy this afternoon. I?m glad the tree brightened up your day.

ABird ? well done on the dinner! Control Journal, hmm? Guess that will be in a few days for me!

Fuzzled ? your control journal sounds great!

Swan ? Sorry about your day. I feel the same way about my house at the moment. I feel so stressed about it.

Haven't really achieved all that much today bar loads of washing.

pootros · 04/12/2011 22:19

Have 2 days before husband gets home... who knows what state the house could be in by then! hoovered today, yey, as the folks babysat.
Bought the flylady book, have the shiny sink , and am SO aware of my clutter now! descending on poor unsuspecting charity shop manana.

BlueEyeshadow · 04/12/2011 22:31

Ta da!
Survived the day.
Cooked roast dinner.
Cleaned kitchen.

Not too bad really, given the start! How about everyone else?

Ellie was feeling better this morning. :)

Fuzzled was catching up with the chat and planning a trip to the garden centre. Glad you had a nice day and well done on the list! :)

Ouch was heading off to renew her spirit and had fun playing in a snow storm

ChitChat was enjoying her shiny sink and a lovely Christingle service.

WhoKnows has been successfully decluttering ? have a gold star!

Sorry to hear about your gran Lauren - that?s so hard. Glad you got the tree up! As for looking forward to house bleugh day? Shock

OFM ran through a muddy field for a Christmas pud ? rather you than me! ? and is contemplating a logistical nightmare. Sounds like a plan, though.

Bird managed to feed loads of people and was planning a control journal. Sorry about your granny too. (I never got round to making one personally, although I have lists all over the place! I shine the sink in the evening after we do the washing up. There are usually milk bottles in the rack draining before they go in the recycling though, so I doubt the Fat Fairy would approve.) Sorry about your granny too.

Swan had a tough day but has also got the tree up.

Hi to pootros - sounds like a good start.

***

Right. Links:

We?re heading into the kitchen tomorrow ? this is one zone I usually manage as it?s all still shiny and new. Grin

Babystep: ? a slightly Hmm one, but if it works for you?
Mission: Clean the bins.

Monday is Weekly Home Blessing Hour House Bleugh day.

I?m off to try and manage an early night for once. Waves to all!

OverflowingFestiveMum · 05/12/2011 08:09

morning all
just in middle of pre-school chaos...will be back for individuals later...

DS 2 didnt sleep well, and felt quite hot through the night, then woke up at 6am and vomited everywhere...soooo looks like he'll be off nursery today...DH has big boss man in work today and CANT take day off, so I will have to take a days careres leave(thankfully we're allowed 3 per year) which will go down as well as a lead balloon at work...so a bit stressed about that....sigh...
BUT on the positive side it does mean I have an extra unexpected day to get stuff sorted around the house....

DS2 however now doesn't seem that unwell...and so it may turn into quite a challenging day Xmas Hmm

right...will be back after school run with a cuppa for individuals....Xmas Wink

laurenamium · 05/12/2011 08:22

Shock I forgot home bleugh off my list!!

Good luck in the chaos ofm

OuchHolly · 05/12/2011 08:44

Good luck with your day OFM.

I am back from doing early morning stuff. Ds is off to school and I have found my bed and this time I will sleep i hope Night. Xmas Hmm

swanriver · 05/12/2011 09:08

It's Dh birthday today. He is 49 Shock
Dd and Ds1 made him special cards, but ds2 decided to use one of last year's xmas cards - dh was slightly unimpressed disappointed by ingrate child by this - whereupon ds2 locked himself in the bathroom to sulk...Luckily our new bathroom locks can be opened with a ruler...Dd set about picking the lock.

Soon forgotten, ds2 went off happily to school with lego for his Lego Club Grin and DH in excellent mood GrinGrin

Last night the three little girls were making Treasure Maps with the paint box; it was very sweet. Then they played a raucous game of Matilda acting out the parts! It makes such a difference when the mess is there for a good reason Smile

swanriver · 05/12/2011 09:12

OFM as you say, this is nothing you can do except stay at home magically teleport granny from overseas so hope today is productive.

Now I must sort out upstairs. Bbl.

slightlycrinkled · 05/12/2011 11:40

Morning all

OM/Toffee/Swan/Deck/Linzer Thank you very much (as ever) for your words of wisdom earlier in the thread which cheered me up no end.

It's good to be reminded about tackling things in small steps from time to time!!!

Only trouble is, I'm so behind with Christmas prep that I think giant strides are going to be mandatory ...!! Have decided to go for direct approach and buy certain presents in shops this year instead of on-line. (Not easy because choice is pretty poor here and everything costs a fortune.) However, it will save all the ridiculous shenanigans of having stuff posted to Belgium and then wrapping/personalising and posting back to UK which is time-consuming and costly and well, a bit mad really. Just going to have to compromise and if it's not the perfect thing, then "good enough" will have to do.

Really stumped over in-laws and sil though. In preceding years have already done:(a) music dvd theme (b) book theme (c) posh smellies theme (d) woollen throws/scarves/gloves theme (e) food hamper theme (f) posh bedlinen theme (g) sewing/knitting theme and I am now officially stumped. Pil are elderly and infirm with traditional tastes. Double whammy because sil and mil have birthdays end Dec/beginning January too. Aaarrrrggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!

Deck think you have hit the nail on the head about relationship between sleep and weight btw. I definitely have less willpower to resist carbs when I am tired and generally eat more too. (Agree with you about cut of clothes atm too btw) Have plumped for (and I use that term advisedly Grin) boring black flared trouser option ....

Feeling slightly more energised than I did however.... Caught my very first whiff/hint of Christmas spirit this morning (St Nicolas will be visiting tomorrow)!! Respect to those of you who already have your decorations up though.

So much to do ..; so little time ...

But off to a bad start because (a) dd went to school late because she has a cold and so didn't go swimming and (b) tis one of the most important days in the office - some of our most important clients invited for afternoon/evening seminar - and there has been a serious flood overnight - office kitchen sink has backed up - and it has taken most of the morning to clear up. Our office cleaner discovered it and heroically dealt with the worst of it but we are now having to hastily organise alternative meeting rooms for this afternoon/this evening (c) second in command to dh is off sick and not likely to be back for some time (d) credit card company has called and they think one of the 'merchants' that I have recently used (bought a few presents/cards on-line last week) has used my card fraudulently ...

Here's hoping the week will get better!!

Now to catch up with rest of thread:

Nice to see yet more newcomers - a warm welcome to all!!

Thank you for round-ups Blue (life-savers for me atm - this thread is moving so fast!)

Sympathies to those of you who are sleep deprived - it's a stressful time of year [proffers tray of triple espressos]

Sympathies too to Lauren/A bird in the hand My fil has vascular dementia so I know what a tough situation it is for all concerned.

And sorry to hear your ds2 is unwell OM and that you've had a difficult morning. Hope he feels better very soon. Congrats on your 10k btw!!

A very happy birthday to your dh Swan!! Hope he has a lovely day! (My dh is same age btw and not looking forward to next year!)

ChitchattingElf decluttering info here

Good luck with the fling boogies Pootros
