Fledglings dreaming of a FLY Christmas - December's fledgling flyers thread

BlueEyeshadow · 30/11/2011 13:25

Welcome flyers one and all, old and new, to the December thread! As the advent calendars go up, let's beat the CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and FLY through Christmas into the New Year (or have a go at it, anyway...)!

We take a three-pronged approach (and a large pinch of salt) to the FLYlady system:

-babysteps
-babysteps and 15 mins' decluttering
-babysteps and missions

The website is here: FlyLady - if you haven't had a look at it for a while it's worth a gander as the design and layout have changed for the better recently.

Whatever you do, though, don't sign up for the emails or your inbox will be bursting within seconds. Or so I'm led to believe... I will post the links to the babystep and mission for each day (the first ones to follow this evening) and there'll be plenty of chat, Wine , Brew and Biscuit along the way.

A big thank you to Darkness for leading us through November with so much fun! Thanks

I'm definitely ready to get back to normal too, MC. As lovely as it's been to be back at my parents', I'm looking forward to getting back home - we're flying back tomorrow, but will then be at my ILs' for a day or two. The DC don't go back to school until the 9th, but at least DH will be around to help entertain them (he's much better at it than I am).

Welcome back Lifebegins. Smile

Have done most of our packing apart from the last-minute stuff. DH has informed me that we still have room in our suitcases, so I feel a trip into town coming on. Grin

Flyingoutofcontrol · 30/12/2011 11:42

Just an odd question y'all.... Grin

Who's read the Sink Reflections book and is it worth the £7.83 they're charging on Amazon?

I'd like to read it, but I'm blowed if I'm going to pay that much for it...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/12/2011 11:47

Me Me Me! I'd say it's worth it, I never really "got" the system till i read the book, despite the best efforts in reading the website and following this thread. It's very gushing and American/Christian in tone which I didn't mind but some might.

If you PM me your name and address I'm quite happy to lend you it, now I have read it I can find my way round the website better IYSWIM, so I don't need it that much now.

LinzerTinsel · 30/12/2011 11:54

I've also read it Flying, and found it quite inspiring (more so than the website, as WhoKnows says). Unfortunately, however, the effect seems to have worn off now - I probably need to reread it! (I did start again in the summer but didn't get very far.)

Flyingoutofcontrol · 30/12/2011 11:56

Mmmn... thanks for the offer WhoKnows and PLEASE don't take this the wrong way, but I don't give out my details online after a bit of a bad experience when I was younger - phonecalls etc

I do have an Amazon giftcard though, so may consider it. Would love it if she made it a kindle book though... wonder if I should email her... Wink

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/12/2011 11:57

That's OK Flying. Why don't you try requesting it from the library? It is a bit of a read once and put back on the shelf book.

Flyingoutofcontrol · 30/12/2011 12:06

Tried that - they don't have it (and I've searched the big city libraries too) Sad

I'll just keep going with the websites I think...

Flyingoutofcontrol · 30/12/2011 12:15

Update!

DH just wandered in while I was adding our Christmas gift certificates to Amazon to get rid of them (decluttering before we loose them!) and said "oh, we've got a free £10 voucher for signing up to LoveFilm again"...

Guess what I've just bought?! Grin I love serendipity! Wink

IceColdBitchy · 30/12/2011 13:24

Holy mother of sinking flyers. Wtf is going on with the new thread it has become a monster

I must go try reading it but at this rate the thread will be full before the first half of the month Shock

I am considering getting the book too but i do know that the biggest problem is clutter so perhaps some kind soul can remind me of the details of the really good decluttering book that we have discussed in the past?

I have not long been up. Almost finished painting my nails so will tackle the to do list in a mo.

To do:
Laundry
15mins in my room
the car
training - cant wait for that. will be fun.

On a more positive note i had another night of proper sleep. Which means that i am feeling more human. which makes a nice chance.

Right I suppose whilst the second coat is drying i should scuttle back to the scarey thread and try to read through although i do have a brain like a sieve for names.

justonemorejingle · 30/12/2011 13:38

er.... hello... Blimey! Catching up with this is too daunting! Hope you all had lovely Christmases, I'm sure it's only been a week since I last posted on here... I NEVER get to go on the computer at the moment, and cannot keep up with you lot!
Anyway I got quite a bit of money as Christmas presents so took all my laundry for a service wash and folding. We live in a tiny flat with no drier so that has made such a massive difference to me. That has been my Christmas present to myself...

As many of you I am also looking forward to getting back to normal and have taken down my Christmas tree already...

But dreading a bit the monotony of being with toddler day in day out again, I think I really need to address our daily routines in the New Year.

Well, hopefully tonight I'll get a bit of time on here to read back all the posts!

LinzerTinsel · 30/12/2011 14:12

Bitchy I have No More Clutter, another book which really motivated me when I first read it and which I probably need to reread as I'm planning to finally get round to some proper decluttering in the New Year.

DartsAgain · 30/12/2011 14:12

Good Morning Afternoon, everyone. I've just looked at the other thread Shock, Wow!

Meanwhile, today I have so far done very little. One load of washing, some tidying, and a trip to do some shopping. I'll cook a quick dinner later, using up the last of my xmas veg. but otherwise little will be done today.

I'll be back into a routine on Monday, when The Tree and all the decorations come down.........

IceColdBitchy · 30/12/2011 14:23

That book looks really good linzer. I might see if i can get it from the library. Trying to declutter the books in this house. Got a stack that i want to read through before i get rid. hahahaha might just get rid, i might make me feel better. Blush

laurenamium · 30/12/2011 14:55

Hiya all!

My phone is back and fixed Grin so I just need to plug it in the computer and download the mumsnet app again then I'll be back to normal! In time for the new thread...which does look scary! No flying here as the kitchen is still -a bombsite under construction so by the time my phone is back I should be back to normal Grin hope everyone is ok! I may just be list dumping and ta da ing on the new thread as it is a bit big until it dies down so don't feel like you need to include me in round ups toffee Wink

BlueEyesAllAglow · 30/12/2011 17:04

Erk, the other thread is seriously scary! Ds1 is now v spotty but in better spirits today. He hasn't been out for a while and is going stir crazy! DH and I went on a nice relaxing trip to Ikea with DS2 this morning and hoping to meet up with a friend and herDD tomorrow, health permitting.. Waves to all and leaves a heap of Biscuit on the bar...

IceColdBitchy · 30/12/2011 17:15

Toffee dont you dare do a thread round up. It will take you a whole fucking day. I have called time on them for the moment and asked for those who feel they have time to do some personals!! Also asked for those who have flying experience to help with questions as the thread has been far more popular then intended.

Sorry if anyone feels this is out of line, do let me know (pm if you would rather) and I will appologise if the tone of my post is felt to be wrong. i am not intending to hurt any feelings with it. Just be realistic.

OverflowingMum · 30/12/2011 17:33

evening all.
We are home...and in all truth VERY glad! Lets just say my parents and sister can be challengingHmm
DC however all in vile moods...early nights all round I think....
House in a depressing state though, but have decided I am too tired to tackle it tonight so will start bright and early tomorrow.
anyone taken their decs down yet??? I feel the urge ... they may be gone by tomorrow lunch time!
blue glad ds is feeling a bit better - poor him.
right...need to go finish tea....may try to bbl (am avoiding Jan VVV scarey monster thread!)

IceColdBitchy · 30/12/2011 17:45

Tbh OFM i am glad it is not just me who is feeling like that about the thread. It is one scarey monster that is gathering its own life

laurenamium · 30/12/2011 18:26

I'm with you ice blue and ofm!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/12/2011 19:14

Well, quite productive day in the end. Dh must have had his ears burning (so to speak), as soon as he had finished his breakfast he set to and singlehandedly cleared the lounge of all the Christmas presents etc and hoovered it (I suspect he has just dumped it all in the spare room, haven't dared look).

I have had a thorough clear out of the craft corner (it is a set of plastic drawers / crates in the corner of the kitchen, had to take it all upstairs to get everyone round the table on Xmas day) so while I put it back I had a good clear out. Took the DCs for a walk into town in the rain later, which was nice, we have all just had our tea and are settling down for the evening. I need to go and get the DCs sheets out of the dryer and put them on their beds.

As for actual Flying, well, I have managed to keep the basic routines going through December and done quite a bit of decluttering (which feels never ending) but have completely dropped missions and deep cleaning, so I need to boot myself up the backside again in January .

Flyingoutofcontrol · 30/12/2011 20:12

Right, it's 8 o'clock and I hereby declare the penultimate naughty corner bar of the year OPEN for Wine and Biscuit.

Let's relax before we all have to brave the scary thread that is for January!

feetheart · 30/12/2011 20:35

Just a couple of questions:

  • do you think they would notice if we stayed here :)
  • is the 'No More Clutter' author English or American? and is she gushy?
Have put both on my Wish List but don't think I could cope with 2 books gushing at me simultaneously.

Going to do 15 minutes accounts with DH now - have been putting it off but want my New Years resolution to be to get things done as I tend to put things off then get stressed because I haven't done them Hmm

laurenamium · 30/12/2011 20:40

Grin at staying here feet

NickNacks · 30/12/2011 20:51

I also wondered if we could side-step and carry on with our little Fledglings group but still popped into the big one to offer help and advice? I feel I'll slip behind if I can't keep up with the thread.

Will join you in the naughty corner if thats ok?

tinselliepac · 30/12/2011 21:57

Today i have been quite spectacularly unproductive really. Managed a food shop and some washing and that's about it. Need to get everything spick and span before return to work on tuesday so must do better tomorrow.

Am sure i've heard all that somewhere beforeGrin.
