Fledglings dreaming of a FLY Christmas - December's fledgling flyers thread

BlueEyeshadow · 30/11/2011 13:25

Welcome flyers one and all, old and new, to the December thread! As the advent calendars go up, let's beat the CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and FLY through Christmas into the New Year (or have a go at it, anyway...)!

We take a three-pronged approach (and a large pinch of salt) to the FLYlady system:

-babysteps
-babysteps and 15 mins' decluttering
-babysteps and missions

The website is here: FlyLady - if you haven't had a look at it for a while it's worth a gander as the design and layout have changed for the better recently.

Whatever you do, though, don't sign up for the emails or your inbox will be bursting within seconds. Or so I'm led to believe... I will post the links to the babystep and mission for each day (the first ones to follow this evening) and there'll be plenty of chat, Wine , Brew and Biscuit along the way.

A big thank you to Darkness for leading us through November with so much fun! Thanks

justonemorejingle · 11/12/2011 09:14

Hi all
always nice to pop in here and hang out with friendly voices!
Tinsellie I am Envy about your dh's cooperative spirit, mine is just not interested in the house, as long as it's basically tidy.
No advice on small room/toys!

I am taking up residence in naughty corner

Abird hope today is a better day - maybe it't too soon for circular arguments and your dh needs time to adjust too..... If it were me in your position I would still be recovering from the shock, let alone planning ahead!
Blue by the way always mean to say thanks for leading the thread.
Waves to all, maybe I'll have time to read through everything more thoroughly later.

tinselliepac · 11/12/2011 09:58

Don't be too Envy just, it's only once in a blue moon Grin.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 11/12/2011 12:42

Afternoon all,

Just got back from rare night away without the DCs at my work Christmas do, most of us stayed at the hotel. Considering how much I had to drink last night I am feeling quite chirpy today. We are going to meet my parents at teh local country park in about an hour and get the DCs back from them, and pick a Christmas tree while we are there if there are any decent ones left (Ellie my DH will have to personally assess each and every tree in the whole place too, although as he is quite hungover it may be quicker than usual).

Last night while drunk he let slip something funny that he had not mentioned before, do you remember about a month ago I said that I had told him we weren't getting a new Christmas tree till he had taken last year's to the tip, which he dutifully did. Last night he was telling someone about this and said that when he got to the tip and dragged this huge old brown christmas tree out of the car every person in the entire place stopped what they were doing and laughed at him! Serves him right for leaving it for 11 months.

Whoever mentioned nail varnish, I never did it while the DCs were younger, but there's no stopping me since I discovered fast drying topcoat. miracle product. I get ready for bed, spend 10 mins painting nails, this topcoat is touch dry on the first nail before you've done the 10th, go to bed and in the morning, hey presto, lovely glossy hard as nails colours.

Right off to get the decorations out of the loft, back later

OuchHolly · 11/12/2011 12:44

Morning.

Well i know why yesterday I felt so overwhelmed and bleurgh. It will be a trip to the dentist tomo to go with the general virus that i have sucummed to. So my list is one of a realistic defeatist today.

Find box.
dump lose jump from dining room into box
put box into garage
find another box
dump junk from study bench into box
put box into garage
shut door
crawl back into bed
hide under duvet having allowed ds his ds games machine back.

Ds has fed himself a ham and tomatoe ketchup sandwich Hmm for lunch. Not great but i am just glad he has eaten and i dont have to worry about feeding him. Blush

FLying will take a backseat be non existant here for a few days until fever/infection disipates. At least now I have a reason for feeling so pathetic and tearful. I feel better for that HmmGrin and will dutifully try to sleep. which is probably the route cause to all this in the first place Blush

However, i do plan to catch up with you all properally.

Beginningtoffeealotlikexmas · 11/12/2011 13:18

Have just read through the latest posts: hope the party goes well, St Nicks ; well done on the tree and lovely, sparkly house, Ellie Xmas Envy; thanks for the miracle product, WhoKnows; get well soon, Ouch - poor you; hope today is a bit less eventful, MC Xmas Wink; thanks for the update and links, Blue; thanks for the mince pies, Fuzzled; hope that's true about the stamps, Linzer; like the new name, Bird (very appropriate!); to SC, Rowing, Lauren, Swan, ChitChat, Madwoman, OFM and PA (who's been AWOL for a while, I notice. Where are you, PA?).

Well, today was my lie in, but I was still up at the crack of dawn with DS2 because I was on auto pilot and didn't realise, until I climbed into bed beside him, that it was meant to be DH's job this morning. However, I then went back to bed around 7, thought maybe I'd nap for another hour and woke up at 11am! Just shows how much sleep I needed to catch up on.

We are having another moochy day today, but as we were all busy last week and have busy days coming up for the next few weeks we've decided it's good for us. I have just about managed to put some washing on and am hoping DH is going to feed the children some lunch in a minute. Visiting MIL this afternoon. Will have to write some Xmas cards this evening (haven't done one yet, so you are ahead of me, Linzer) and do my before-bed routine.

Am not even dressed yet Xmas Blush.

Hope you all have a good day (and that you are managing to sleep off the infection, Ouch).

LinzerTinsel · 11/12/2011 18:47

No time to catch up properly, I'm afraid - we've been out more or less all day at DH's work Christmas party (the usual cruise on the Danube with puppet show, magician and Father Christmas, which was lovely although getting a bit same-y). About the only productive thing I've done today is make 26 rissoles. I also made four portions of chicken curry yesterday. Serves me right for sending DH shopping and neglecting to remind him to buy meat that had a best before date early next week. I could have frozen it, I suppose, but then I never remember to take it out in time to cook with it.

Toffee Glad you managed to catch up on some sleep despite your early start. A moochy day sounds good.

Ouch Hope you're feeling better soon.

WhoKnows I was one of the ones who mentioned nail varnish, you won't be surprised to hear (was never too bothered about polish before I joined the Couch to 5k thread Xmas Grin). Thanks for the top coat link - shall definitely investigate as I'm fed up of varnish smudging before I've even had it on 10 minutes.

Waves to everyone else - must go and tidy up in the kitchen before DH reappears after his bath.

3inABIRDsnest · 11/12/2011 19:10

HI Everyone. Busy day:

Decorated tree
Tidied and hoovered living room
Hoovered living room again, because of smashed snowglobe Hmm
Bought logs
Wrote ALL the christmas cards Shock (except a few where DH needs to ring his mum to get addresses, and to find out if the people have had another baby since last year - we can't remember! Blush
Still a bit to do this evening, but hopefully won't be long before I can collapse in bed.

Makingchanges · 11/12/2011 19:27

whoknows definately going to try your miracle topcoat - can never get my nail varnish to last longee than a couple of days

nicknacks (can't remember christmas name and on phone so can't scroll) hope party went well

ouch sorry to hear you are feeling unwell

Well have had a lovely shopping morning at Meadowhell. Dh took dd to cinema and i spent my birthday money on new clothes for my new job. Then had a lovely meal snd escaped before crowds got too much Wink.

Have also written and delivered neighbours and some of family cards, dd has written school cards and have done 3 loads of washing and completed my pre-xmas online shop - last delivery i can get is 20th but as xmas isn't at our this year this will do.

Right off to make lunches and myself a sausage sandwich for tea and dd to bed before i settle down for xfactor final.

Morning all,

DS is at home today as he had a temperature last night and definitely isn't his usual self today. He can be quite hard work when he's ill as, unlike the girls, he won't lie in bed/on the sofa for any length of time, but Peppa Pig is keeping him entertained at the moment. Hope your DS is better soon ChitChatting and that your night wasn't too disturbed.

Just a quick list for now as I'm not sure how long I've got before DS decides he's better/bored...

Put washing away

Empty dishwasher
Put breakfast things away
Swish & swipe

Back later!

Morning all

Busy day here, in fact busy week. I have so far posted cards, been to post office and picked up parcels and done supermarket. Just having brekkie then I need to have a proper tidy of lounge as DD is desperate to put tree up and at the moment there is no way. DD is at swimming tonight and last few bits of cards need writing.

I really have no idea where to start with lounge so a list

  • Sort Wii games and put away
  • Tidy off craft table and put away
  • Sort and declutter toys - hopefully make some room for new ones at christmas
  • Declutter hotspot at end of settee
  • declutter dds chair of dumped rubbish from DHs tidying Hmm
  • print out instruction manual for carpet cleaner and clean the two rugs
  • Tidy top of fish tank
  • Mop and hoover all wooden floors
  • Find somewhere for floor lamp to go so xmas tree can go in its place.
  • Where will playmobile go???????????

Right breakfast first. Hope everyone has a great day

Makingchanges · 12/12/2011 10:21

xpost - welcome Bigeyes wow that is quite a list. Glad its for a few days and not just today. Take it steady Smile

OuchHolly · 12/12/2011 10:27

Hello Bigeyes. I vaguely remember you, although you won't recognise me as am a regular namechanger.

Don't focus on the length of the list focus for 15mins, focus on something else for 15mins, something else for 15mins and then sit down for 15mins for a break. I know you won't feel like you have time but you will get more done with the power of 15.

Morning. Still very under the weather. But have had a huge coffee intake, have my timer and going with yesterday's boxing up plan. Seeing as I slept all day yesterday. Ds will also need attention today as he was uber good and occupied himself in a quiet and tidy mannor yesterday Shock. Hopefully can get his room tidy enough for him to put up his little christmas tree. Which he will love.

Wishing the fledglings good flying days.

LinzerTinsel · 12/12/2011 10:41

Hi bigeyes and welcome back. Xmas Smile Are you a name changer btw? I don't recognise your name (although I do have a sieve-like memory at times). Ouch's advice about focusing on something for 15 minutes is very good and is something I should do more often too.

MC I really must declutter some toys before Christmas and DD1's birthday. At least all the Playmobil and Lego is in the cellar so I don't have to worry about where yet more of it will go (and I tend not to venture down there too much so I don't have to see it), but there's no more room for any more games or jigsaws in the playroom cupboards - the whole room is in urgent need of decluttering, in fact.

So far today, I have:

Emptied and reloaded the dishwasher
Done one load of washing
Folded up some (but not all) of the dry washing
Tended to DS's every need (although I did ignore him when he started pestering me for a present. He's just gone back to sleep again and still has a temperature, so it looks like he'll be at home tomorrow too.)

A good part of the morning seems to have been taken up with writing to an American friend. We only write to each other at Christmas so I didn't want to just send a card, but it's really slowing down my progress... I haven't even finished it yet as I keep getting distracted by MN. Must get lunch made now, though, as DD1 will be home in about 20 minutes.

Fuzzled · 12/12/2011 10:42

Morning all.

On phone again so still no personals .

Been up since 3 with DS (see thread here if anyone can help) so a bit tired.

Going to try to do the following:
Wash clothes (4 loads)
Wash bathmats (1 load)
Wash towels (1 load)
WAH job
Get to post office with cards that need "funny" business doing to them
Make fish pie for dinner

That should do me!

bigeyes · 12/12/2011 12:46

I did linger on here a bit and have so far:

Stripped bed
Put all cluter on bed so I can sort it without bending (it was all in random bags n boxes)
Store baby clothes in lovely new nursery furniture.
Have sorted a pile of rubbish, a bag of toys for charity shop

Im on a break now, but I dont know what to do with the other piles of stuff.

I know once i get the clutter out I will be able to fly thru the cleaning part

3inABIRDsnest · 12/12/2011 12:55

What is the other stuff, big eyes? If it has no home, do you really need it?
