Managed to banish the headache with DH's migraine tablets (strong ibuprofen) and fresh air and had a great time buying stuff for DS2's party. Bought a kit of science experiments for DH, who is planning to dress up as a mad scientist and amuse the children ; bought a neat little oven-proof bowl so that I can cook an 'igloo' to go on top of the cake; bought penguin and snowmen cutters for biscuits. This is the bit I enjoy. The party is another matter.
I have had to email DS1's teacher to ask what else we can do to find his kit. First he lost his dance kit, which never resurfaced (in spite of being in a bag with his name emblazoned across it
) and now the bloody PE kit. I can't buy it all over again - it cost a fortune! He's got both pairs of shoes in there (football boots and trainers), not to mention all the kit. The trouble is that he has a terrible memory (he has been tested on this for the dyslexia tests and has a very, very poor short-term memory), so really struggles to remember stuff or organise himself. But he has to do it for himself now he's at secondary. His conversation with me this morning reminded me of PA's daughter with the wasp. I think he thought I was going to magically make his PE kit reappear.
Swan - glad your son has a system with his PE kit which seems to work. I asked DS to bring his kit home last week, so we knew where it was and I could make sure he took it in for PE, but - er - he forgot!
DH has hired a sander and is sanding the dining-room floor now. The dust set all the fire alarms off a minute ago, but DS1 remained in his room, too busy on the computer to check what was going on (there is an alarm in his room, so no chance that he missed it). I did point out that it might have been a real fire...
I have an excuse for not doing the 'home blessing' today: it's just too chaotic here. DH has had to pile all the dining-room furniture up in the kitchen and sitting room, so I can't even see the floor. It does mean that we just have to stay in the front room and eat pizza for dinner, though, which is quite good
.
Welcome, LifeofKate
. You are, indeed, very brave to attempt to fly with such young children. I really, really struggled when mine were younger and was always very envious of friends who had mums or MILs who came round and helped them.
Have read everyone's posts, but have to go now, so apologies for not replying individually to you all.
