Hi, just moved into a new property and theres black, high gloss shiny floor tiles in the blinking bathroom. Every single mark and bit of dust shows up because its such a light room.

I cant keep them looking nice, is there a particular cleaner or tip anyone can give me please???? The landlord is coming on thursday to fit us a new oven and i want it to be nice in there just in case he needs a wee Grin

Thanks

Microfibre cloth and the very smallest amount of product to avoid smearing?
Microfibre mop and warm water with half a cap of fabric conditioner?
OR
Accept that floors get walked on so are rarely pristine? How good did it look whn you moved in? If it was OK then, find out who did that and ask them.

rug?

gloss black is for looking at only.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I have them in our kitchen and they always look grimy. I do know how to get them to sparkle but you must avoid looking at them, breathing on them or walking on them or they will be become grimy looking again.

You need some of that flash non streak cleaner. A measuring jug. A bucket. A microfibre mop and a Vileda flat microfibre mop.

Carefully measure out the flash as per the instructions. Not enough and they won't come clean. Too much and they'll streak beyond fixing. Don't be tempted to guess how much flash you need. Even one drop too much will have them covered in streaks.

Mop with the microfiber mop and flash mixture. They will dry slightly streaky and dull. Get the Vileda flat mop, don't wet it at all. Buff the floor to a shine. Then you may admire your shiny floor from a safe distance. Be warned if you so much as put your big toe on the floor it will be covered in footprints and streaks again.

This does not get done in my house often. You'll just have to learn to live with a streaky, grimy looking floor.

My friend has these in her eeeenormous kitchen. She uses a steam mop 3 times a day according to her husband Hmm

Life's too short.

Thanks for your replies. We're moving (not because of the floor tiles) so they wont be my problem any more Grin but i will use these tips on the last day when im sure everyone has had a wee and wont be going in there again

Just found this top tip. Once tiles are cleaned to make sure no dirt or grease, using a normal floor cleaner like flash, go over them lightly with a shower cleaner like shower shine designed for using in shoes after use.. Buff with micro fibre cloth then no smears or marks at all. If your floor is clean but just needs a quick once over just use the shower spray and buff with a dry microfiber cloth. Works brilliantly and doesn't discolour grout.

Just spent £11.99 on porcelain floor tile cleaner from wickets hopeless. This trird cleaner I have bought nothing working

Foreverconfused · 17/10/2015 06:53

Use normal cleaner and then wipe dry with newspaper. I have a black cooker lid which always looks streaky but this eliminates it ??

Sgtmajormummy · 17/10/2015 07:14

I see you're moving out, but for anyone else interested: an eggcup of ammonia in a bucket of hot water. Microfibre or vileda mop.

Ammonia is the stuff that smells like pee, so not for cat owners! Quite hard to find but dirt cheap (18p a litre in Italian Lidl, not sure about UK as it can be used for home bombmaking... ) and one of the main ingredients in Flash.
Your floors will sqeak they're so de-greased!

hmcReborn · 17/10/2015 07:16

Who the heck gets high gloss floor tiles! Obviously not fit for purpose. Not saying you OP because I realise it wasn't your choice.

Snoopadoop · 17/10/2015 09:51

I see you're moving out.

The OP moved out on 2011. I bloody hate zombie threads. Anyway I'm sure your tips will come in handy. Grin

Oh me too! What a waste of time

donajimena · 19/10/2015 13:47

Window cleaner (eg mr muscle) I'm a cleaner and its the only thing that works.
Mopping leaves mop marks

donajimena · 19/10/2015 13:47

Oh Sad bloody zombies

Tillytina1234 · 10/09/2016 23:11

Flash no rinse

lorrainec21 · 06/10/2016 21:57

Mop the floor with Flash. When the floor is dry stand on 2 old tea towels. Spray Mr Muscle window lean on the floor and skate across the floor on the tea towels. You will have a lovely shiny floor!

annenaidoo01 · 08/11/2016 12:18

Why are your suffering to clean porcelain tiles whether on wall or floor I had the same problem after moping it looked worse than before heard of paraffin use one small cap add to your moping water squeeze mop and wipe floor let it dry naturally and check it glitter even after walking on it now you will enjoy moping with no hassle obviously if you gonna walk with wet feet or paws you gonna see marks.

goalesh · 08/11/2016 13:00

To clean your black high gloss floor tiles i suggest using this non slip floor polish I've used it a couple of times on my floor tiles and it really cleans them up leaving them looking super clean.

Tracetheacr · 30/03/2017 23:48

I had a mad idea I wanted sparkly black high gloss ok all, thru the hall but near over the grease the dust they are an idiots choice I am that idiot nothing I tell you nothing keeps them clean!!

agedknees · 03/04/2017 19:41

I have very shiny black tiles in kitchen, hall and downstairs loo.

I find wearing sunglasses all year round in the house dramatically improves its appearance.

MercyMyJewels · 04/04/2017 11:46

Use a (clean cloth) steam mop to clean, then once dry, spray with window cleaner (or water/vinegar mix) and buff to shine. After people shower, use towel to buff again, poss with the vinegar mix. Train everyone to do this after showering

MercyMyJewels · 04/04/2017 11:47

Oh no! Just noticed it's a zombie thread

ShowMeTheKittens · 26/06/2019 20:45
