Help, I've just made jam in my new copper bottomed pan and its burnt...

Any ideas on how to remove burnt jam from a stainless steel but very expensive saucepan? Copper bottomed which...am now thinking wasn't the best thing to put it in....

Anyone?

Please anyone... I have a similar problem here. I did bicarb on Sat, washing powder yest and today am trying vinegar!

Boil up water and salt?

I would try filling with boiling water and soap, put a lid on it and let steam help.

Burnt pan here too! (caramel) I've tried salt but doesn't seem to have done any good. More salt? Or what soap Missus?

I was going to suggest washing powder, put pan on to boil but i am not sure if it will be good for a copper pan. I have done this and it does work but you have to put the pan on to boil if it is really burnt.

Soap = washing up liquid. Can you use a brillo pad on the pan or would that ruin it? Try squirting some Fairy liquid in the bottom, pour in boiling water, put the lid on it and let it soak for awhile. Ideally if it's burnt sugar it should hopefully dissolve.

burnt sugar will dissolve - but may take a while. Put washing powder in with water, boil and leave overnight. In the morning wash, scrape out anything that comes away carefully and repeat until all removed. May need to use some force for the small bits left towards the end but they will come out - I speak from experience!

If pan is copper bottomed, I am assuming that means copper is on outside. Inside should be fine but make sure the washing powder solution doesn't boil over and wash the outside well to make sure on soap left on.

Pengy is right - it took 5 days (of mostly doing nothing but having the pan on the hob just gloating at me!) but my burnt caramel has now shifted.

Thanks for all the posts and suggestions, I boiled a dishwasher tablet for about 15 minutes after soaking the pan in bio liquid overnight (which didn't do anything) and I managed to get all of it off really easily.
