So why is the drain thingy in my fridge not working properly?

You know, the bit at the back with a stick thing sticking out of it.

But it's getting full on a regular basis. I take the stick out, poke it a bit, let the water drain away, and it's full again within a couple of days.

And now it doesn't seem to be draining at all.

What's going on then?

Probably got some mould/fungus type of growth that is blocking it. Take it out using cotton buds, spray with some dettox and clean the channel out again with more cotton buds. Do this periodically when you clean the fridge and shouldn't happen again.
At least that is what it was with mine.

Er - did yours really come with a stick? Mine have never had sticks, unless I put them there myself. `sounds like you need to get a cocktail stick and dig out the gunge. Did mine the other day and was actually amazed by how much foul jellied murk i got. Go from the inside, and from the outside/back.

I have a good poke round with the stick but nothing seems to come out. I'd lose a cotton bud if I stuck that down there. Might try something like a, erm, what they called, for putting kebabs on. Skewers. Would that damage something???

Built in fridge. Can't get round the back.

It's only 18 months old. Seems a bit of a short timescale to be having problems.

Maybe something tiny has got stuck down there (like a sliver of lettuce or whatever) and festered?

Deffo use a long pointy stick and try to fish out any grot. Gently does it. If no grot...

...18 months in, how long is the warranty? Even if less, I'd be calling the manufacturer.

Pipe cleaners are brilliant for this, make sure you turn the fridge off at the switch first. Enjoy.

Our F/F was overflowing at the back (its about 5 yo).Kept getting water on the bottom,glass shelf.

Dh cleaned it with cotton bud and wooden skewer. Horrendous amount of black muck.
Works fine now but I'm giving the fridge some judgy looks, MN style, regarding its personal hygiene.

Our freezer engineer told.us to put a tiny drop of bleach down cos it gets blocked with bugs & mould.

I dont use bleach in the home so have used anti-back spray stuff and give it a good poke. Seems to work a treat.
