Why does the washing machine have a window, but the dishwasher doesn't?

Its so your cat or kid can watch the dance of the dirty laundry. Mine doesn't have a window. I miss the squeak of an overloaded machine rubbing against the glass.

Apparently it's psychological. We like to be able to see our washing being washed. It makes no sense to have a window there - it's very inefficient and much heat is lost through it. All this is according to a very knowledgeable man in the local washing machine mending place round the corner.

But surely a front loading washing machine needs a door that seals, maybe plastic or metal would be more prone to corrosion?

What I want to know is, the inside of the drum in a washing machine is coated in shiny metal which doesn't get limescaly, however other parts are always failing due to limescale, why not coat all of the bloody metal parts in this magic stuff Confused.

You have a point there V - do you think the people from Calgon know but are keeping it under their hats?

I have noticed that I can open my current dishwasher at any point during the cycle but the washing machine locks, until now it has never occured to me to wonder why.

My old dishwasher used to have an automatic door locking system, I'm assuming it's because it was old enough to be a 'bath' design and the new one is a 'shower'? Does anyone know if this is right as it's going to bug me forever if I don't find out now. Grin

Actually my old table top dishwasher had a window. The kids found it fascinating.
