Can anyone recommend a vacuum cleaner

i have had a dyson multi floor for years. I am moving house and will have a mixture of carpets, wood and tiled floors and my dyson has just started to make a very loud noise, get hot and not pick things up. I have done all the obvious things like check filters but it only works using the hose. I don't have time to mess about so think I need to bite the bullet and buy a new cleaner ASAP. Can anyone recommend one. I would prefer an upright model and one that would do hard floors as well. Is a Roomba just a gimmick that doesn't really work?

Just went through the sames decision making process last month when I realised we had a flea infestation. Thanks to MN I was persuaded by the Miele. Absolutely brilliant compared to my old Dyson DC05 - totally in another league! I went for the cat & dog one but without the turbo brush as I found the turbo brush I had on the Dyson just got long hair wrapped around it and I end up periodically having to cut it off the roller with nail scissors - yuk.

I found a post on MN recommending www.ogormans.co.uk/miele.htm and although the site is really ropey, the hoover arrived the 36 hours and was£100 cheaper than John Lewis. I went for the Miele S5211 Power Plus and its the business!

Henry or Hetty, the best, John Lewis £99 with attachments, three years warranty and spare bags, very powerful and great on pet hairSmile

Henry. There is a reason why plumbers/decorators/carpenters have them as part of their kit. They are fantastic. You can get them as cheap as £70 if you shop around.

I have an Electrolux ultra one, and I'm very pleased with it. Miles better than our dyson.

After two Dysons I got a Miele Cat and Dog. Love it!
