Fledglings flying though July into the summer.

Roll up, roll up. tis the month of school fetes, sports days and annual reports. In all this flurry of extra activities and with the summer holidays hurtling towards us at rapid speed, now is the time to tame the chaos before our very special chaos creators are able to help us. Fully intending to beat the Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome so that my personal chaos creator can be occupied by others this holiday. Good luck to all to are also striving to achieve this.

Starting from the 1st of the month we shall be fluttering our way to tamed houses. If you are new to the system it is recommend that you focus on making the babysteps your main focus. The babysteps will build up to form routines to help you to stay on top of the house once you have discovered it. First step is to shine your sink. But not just half heartidly, deep clean til it shines Instructions here

For the more established flyer we then progress onto decluttering. 15mins each day in alloted zone of the week. New zones each week. and current zones and decluttering instructions can be found here Zones will automatically update for July.

As for the advanced flyer, there are missions to do each day in the current zone

We have one rule we are NOT perfectionists anything is better then nothing, real life gets in the way and we have to do other stuff other then cleaning (put it on your list, tick it off and :) ), besides the fat fairy's moto is "You are never behind"

As such take the vomit inducing cuteness of the website with a pinch of salt, and join us for wish lists formally to do lists , ta da lists and home bleurghs. Wink

See you bright and early tomo although hopefully not too bright and early.

Grin

hello all, been awol a few days and not caught up yet as laptop died. Had to get a new one on sunday (does that count as a ta da? 2 blinking hours in a full to the brim apple store with a tired and hungry baby not my idea of heaven). Am now in guilt mode that we spent too much on buying a mac given I'm on mat pay and we have had so much done to the house recently but sometimes comp feels like my way into the world Blush when i'm stuck at home with dd Confused Shock

managed my nemesis of polishing the sofa while watching wimbledon though Grin and starting now a conservation/cleaning project on a piece of beautiful 18th c plaster work in the hope it will look good enough to be a feature on awall in the house somewhere.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/07/2011 17:23

Hello Reastie - we did the same computer wise at Christmas, although an hour in a packed Apple shop with 5 and 7 year olds isn't too bad, just give them an Ipad each and off you go. I was a bit nervous about how much it cost, but it is nice and hopefully will last a long time! Still getting used to a few of it's funny ways though, as a longterm PC user.

Well, done a fair amount from my list, will tick it off later. Managed a few things that weren't on it (thank you for PA for reminding me I needed to book the IOW ferry). Feeling tired after doing the Yr 2 road safety training again, all they wanted to do was get out of school and climb trees, not talk about parked cars and zebra crossings. That's it all done now though, thank goodness.

Feeling better generally today, not on top of the world, but the low miserable feelings have lifted.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/07/2011 17:27

Swan - I used to work somewhere that reminded us never to leave any evidence of our home address/phone no on display at work (it was a big place with a lot of contractors and other strangers around) as potential burglars could find out your holidays from wall planners and if your phone no was, say on a post-it on your desk, they could find out where you lived. So it's not just you.

Linzer - thought I was the only one who passes whole weeks blissfully unaware of which zone we're in. I'm not too bad at kitchen, bathroom and master bedroom, I practically never manage the missions in any of the others.

ColdHeartedBitch · 04/07/2011 17:33

Evening all! 37 exam papers to go and feeling altogether more positive tonight Grin. Sorry for the rants yesterday and thank you for the sympathy.

Spent all of last night in a grump which served it's purpose in that DH has completely redeemed himself this evening by tidying the whole house tonight, looking after the DC's and cooking tea. He said I 'seemed a bit down last night' Hmm. ANyway, am sat down in a relatively tidy, if not particularly clean, house and can see the light at the end of tunnel (and the floor), and I don't think DH is a twat anymore (for now Wink).

I will also admit to not paying a blind bit of notice to the zones or the missions for that matter unless I am on school holidays. Takes everything I have just to stay in the babysteps routine and can't even do that of late!

No time for personals as I want to get a few more done before bed so big waves to everyone Smile.

neverputasockinatoaster · 04/07/2011 21:27

Gosh you are all busy!

Well I'm finding the baby steps a bit unispiring I must say, especially the post ti notes! I like the idea of ignoring that one so i shall! Sink is still shiny.

I have begun trying to develop the habit of writing the tasks for the day on a planner in my hall. Its write on wipe off and I love wiping them off as I do them. I suppose it is a bit like post its but contained in one place.

My laundry basket is the emptiest it has ever been but the ironing pile has reached epic heights!

Onward and upward! Night all.

Stillchuckingit · 04/07/2011 21:37

Bravo for kicking the bulk of your marking in to touch Ellie and well done to your dh for pulling his finger out ...

V impressed by your 'ta da' accomplishments today CHB!!

Swan sadly, cardiologist has banned cheese (even though cholesterol levels ok Confused) although, now I think about it, one test said it was slightly over. But I did have a few thin strips of cold steak with my salad this lunchtime [keeping up the iron levels] Feel EXACTLY the same way about battles with dh over dd btw. All escalates because I am battling BOTH of them. I also want to do the missions other than missions of the day [contrary emoticon] but I guess that's OK and part of Fat Fairy's reverse psychology!! And I also end up reading the books I am meant to be throwing out [doppelganger emoticon]!!

Technician brought bad news. Our home computer is dead and we've had to buy another one. So another one feeling guilty here Reastie

Happily though, he can transfer all our info (phew) from one to t'other.

Ummed and ahhed over laptop v desktop but went for latter in the end. I rather fancy the idea of being able to write posts from under duvet but plug sockets in this house few and far between and knowing me I'd spill my morning tea over the keyboard or some'at.

I don't know where the day has gone either Pink I've been fairly busy for all of it (apart from lovely walk in sunshine) but have only accomplished half my list.

Glad your dd1 is OK Linzer

Blue good sign that your ds2 took to his playgroup immediately!

Waves to Toffee Whoknows and everyone else...

Didn't do too badly today but need to accomplish more tomorrow ...off to layer apricots with sugar in prep for jam-making tomorrow ...

evening all.
Have been a shocking FLY friend again ooops! Blush
Really am just finding life all too much at the moment. Why do school do this at Christmas and end of year? Basically everyone is totally exhausted, and then the school decide to heap LOADS more stuff onto everything!
So yes, I am lost in a flurry of school and various fairs, school trips, galas, sports days leaving assemblies/parties etc....
Add to that the other Doctor at work has left somewhat unexpectedly (did I mention that already?) so I am totally swamped at work, plus cant take any leave to go to assorted sports days etc
Add to that several birthday parties, and family barbecues...and well quite honestly I've had enough!
I havent had a "free" weekend in about a month now, with no let up in sight. Last wk/end was 2 summer fairs and a gala (oh and I did a 10K race but that was my own silly fault!), then this wk/end we have a BBQ a couple of hours away and then DH bday etc....

anyway...am attempting to keep on top of everything...not helped by DC who seem totally incapable of taking any responsibility for remembering anything for themselves!

a quick to do list to cheer myself up and focus!
main achievements today:
hoovered and dusted lounge
mopped floors
3 loads of washing
printed of letter for statement for dd3
filled in form for dd2 trip
rang nursery about Sept

tomorrow I need to:
go into school office and discuss school nursery place and hand in forms and find out date for leaving assembly
remember to hand out dd3 bday invitations
post letter re dd3 statement
hoover stairs
remind dd1 to sort stuff for induction day on Weds

right...now need to sleep! will hopefully bbtomorrow for a better catch up Grin

BlueEyeshadow · 04/07/2011 22:15

Just sneak-peeked tomorrow's mission - the Fat Fairy's seen inside my plastic tub cupboard!! Shock

Mmm, apricot jam! Sounds lovely SC, and hope the new pooter is working well, yours too Reastie.

Impressive lists CHB and cobwebs - it looks so much better written down!

Never - I only find about half the babysteps useful, but the good ones are very good IYSWIM.

Glad you're feeling a bit better today ellie

Hope DS1's lesson went well Toffee.

A wedding sounds like a lovely way to spend a Monday afternoon Bartlett. Hope you enjoyed it.

Waves to Linzer, Lady, WhoKnows, swan and all.

Ta-da!
Laundry
Shopping and putting away
Kitchen mission
Endless floor sweeping
Dishwasher loaded
Shiny(ish) sink
Recycling out
Blowing bubbles for boys
Inflated and filled paddling pool, cleared up dripping floors
Veg picking and weeding

To do - tonight
Pack up parcel
Bags for tomorrow
Laundry away and another load in
DH to put suitcases etc in loft
tomorrow
Hang out laundry and put away
Make bread
Post parcel
Charity shop drop off
Toddlers
Work
back up PC

Apparently we have to get to nursery in good time tomorrow so that DS1 can get the book bag book he wants before anybody else gets to it... Hmm

ColdHeartedBitch · 04/07/2011 23:08

evening. Sorry not stopping for personals. rewarded myself for the achievements today with late training as early didnt happen. Now have 2 hours of sorting out falling apartness so need to be quick.

The bar is always open to those who need it so even you dont have chance to do anything other then stick you head in and neck a Wine or two then feel free.

Babystep is another one you can probably ignore keep shining that sink and get up when you wake up

zone is still kitchen and mission should be here tomo although dont be surprised if it updates late due to being 4th July today.

As for tomorrow as it is tuesday it is plannind day, meal plans at the ready...

Have good sleeps and catch up tomo. sports day here so almost garanteed to rain.

oh dear I seem to have lost Cobweb - in whatever direction I scroll, backwards and forwards through time and space, Waves, and hope you resisted their pleas for a treasurer and stood firm.

Blue is introducing Ds2 to playgroup and he loves it, and plans to make bread tomorrow, I remember - and has also swept and shone and puffed today
SC is very motivated, and determined not to write posts from under a duvet but keep flying from a proper office.
Ellie well at least he's not touchy!! I think he sounds lovely, just occasionally doesn't notice what is expected of 36 year olds.
OFM I was thinking much the same thing about functions..Why don't they stagger all these things a bit more sensibly? Lovely to see you, even if you are merely a streak of white heat on the horizon. 10 km, bloody hell Grin
But seriously, I'm sorry everything is so overwhelming, and as usual you are just amazingly getting on and dealing with everything. Well done for getting over the obstacle of putting statement together, that must have taken a lot of work too. Are you still covering for the emergency Maternity Leave Consultant? That's hard work for you; I hope her baby is doing alright too.
Reastie am likign thought of new laptop, even better SC cunning trick of transfering all info from old to new. This one keeps going stripey, and trying to delete everything, it obviously wants to be free of its past crimes...
Also [pines for beautiful plasterwork feature - I had a second cousin who made plaster reliefs of dog's heads you could hang up, very charming)
Whoknows has been saintly to do Road Safety. Hope your DH and dcs give you a big hug tomorrow to get rid of those lowering feelings
CHB you have to deal with a lot, thank goodness for those nattering friends. If its any consolation Dh is hard to pin down over holidays too, not just exes. Hope he gives ds the chat he needs, I'm sure he wants the best for him too, just doesn't go about it the right way Sad
Never I know babysteps seem boring, it reminds me a bit of Weaning: I was raring to get onto the avocado mango and cottage cheese recipe, and all Annabel Karmel would let me give my ds1 was baby rice and apple or carrot. However, worth just following them for now, because if you miss out the vital stages...OOOH, well, what happens is .....[indigestion]
no seriously...there is a reason to establish basic, simple, uninteresting, routines because a lot of the time the reason the house is untdy is because we rush around tidying frenetically one day and then give up the next [sadly this is me Sad or do too much and then feel it's not worth the strain.

For example, I have not yet mastered the putting the washing away after I wash it, there's a babystep if any that seems very dull, but it seems to be a vital one, and I mssed it, and spend a lot of time scrounging around looking for things in an enormous pile of clean unironed laundry.

which admittedly this evening I have sorted into 5 piles, and will finish by sorting into sub piles, so that is something.

Enough of this manic typing, I'm off to bed, DH is again what I can only describe as a head tossing mood [consults Horse Whisperer] We've had manic evening as is usual on Monday, compounded by unexpected child visitor.
done
filled in at least 3 forms and written no less than five cheques for ds1's induction day, including a letter requesting he do Spanish not French, and that he be put in a different class for x....and apologising for not sending back the forms on the 30th June Confused

swanriver · 05/07/2011 00:26

headtossing aka cross with sarcasm thrown in

ColdHeartedBitch · 05/07/2011 00:34

Sorry swan you made me Grin I also seem to have lost cobwebs. was there confusion as i posted 2 huge ta da lists today? Wont happen again so we are safe from any possible confusion happening again Grin Ex did speak to ds in the end. Ds decided he couldnt be bothered after the fuss

ColdHeartedBitch · 05/07/2011 00:39

Wish list, bother! Came back to post one:

sort out pumps
sportsday
finish ds' floor
more washing
my bedding
my floor
putting away some stuff from temp storage in bath (dont ask)
dodge rainstorms
try not to fall asleep mid morning.

tryingtoberealisticbutnotsureknowshow.

Oh and i dont think i even look at the zones and missions. After nearly 2 years fo flying i am still spending far too much time in the naughty corner bar when it comes to even the babysteps. Never made it past mid month but i keep hoping. And trying. and failing Anyone got any tips for flying with a topsy turvey no sleep included in general routine?

OP posts:
Ihatecobwebs · 05/07/2011 11:02

Swan - I held out against being Treasurer for another term, but have agreed to maintain the ledgers for a couple of months, to give new Committee time to sort themselves out and find someone to do the job. I've taken names though, to start the change of signatory details on everything, and I've said that I'm no longer going to organise my life around their stuff, eg not going on holiday etc so I can do payroll on time - so salaries may be a few days late!

Done
Not a lot so far ...
Morning routine
DS to playgroup
WI paperwork, accounts, meeting prep

To Do
Washing up from meeting last night
S/s
Make beds
Handwashing
Clean washing away
Zone cleaning
Garden - 15 mins
Lunch
Get changed
Collect DS from playgroup
Collect DM and take to hospital
Collect DM's dog and bring everyone back for tea (DM babysitting for me)
Cook tea
Evening routine
WI committee meeting
Take DM home when DH gets back
Find suitable clothes for interview tomorrow - an admin/accounts part time job at a local health/spa centre - scary as its my first interview since I had DS
Water in and out

swanriver · 05/07/2011 11:25

Cobweb there you are! well done for putting your foot down.

Toffee sorry, I left you out last night, and Silken apologies, - and SC is confusing me by doing a roundup earlier in the evening Wink

ErnesttheBavarian · 05/07/2011 11:53

think I'm going to have to opt out before I begin. I cannot keep up with so much chat. Sorry. Find it impossible to follow and can't see any of the cleaning stuff amongst it all Blush

(gets coat and shuffles to door, head bowed)

swanriver · 05/07/2011 12:06

Ernest stay, please do, I'll do some cleaning if you like....

[rushes off to deal with routines]

it is a bit alarming when people on this thread do nothing but post lists of their cleaning achievements, really it is [very off puttingBlush but I admit, I should try re-direct the Roundup to that [ahem]theme

This morning I have
done
swish and swipe
made bed
took ds1 to induction day, and stood in blazing heat to hand in forms with 180 other parents Hmm
but....met very nice parent who just happened to be a drama teacher (Pink! I was thinking of you, and getting the dcs to be more articulate generally)

Dh returned home with a suspected stress fracture in his foot - upset/bought some new shoes/went to work again hopign shoes would do trick
Dd is ill, and asleep on sofa, thought she was faking to steal ds1 thunder but alas she is ill Sad

all in all the usual topsy turvey day, and I thought I was going in to work at school Hmm

todo
sink
wash ds2 sheets
tidy dd room
unpack veg box
wipe kitchen table

and computer is on its LAST LAST LEGS.

Stillchuckingit · 05/07/2011 12:23

Hi Ernest

Sorry if all the chat is putting you off!! We do gab on a bit!! Don't want to put off newcomers though!!

If you have newest Mumsnet settings, go to the posts highlighted in green, and you will see that CHB is posting the steps for the following day every evening.

Have you flown before? Sorry if you know this already but the baby-steps are here. They are posted one a day (in sync with the day of the month) and initially, you just have to follow those until they become second nature. (In reality, you can ignore about a quarter of them because they are just Flylady psychobabble/waffle)

Once you have the baby-steps under your belt (do one month of them exclusively - I promise they work really well) then you can graduate to decluttering in the current zones - and then finally to the missions (which CHB also posts for the next day)

It's probably best if you take a look at these bits of the Flylady site:

here and here for more info.

At the risk of sounding like some wierd cult leader, you don't have to understand all of it at the beginning - it will all make sense as you go along. It helps if you adapt the system to suit your own house/lifestyle/routines etc.

Hope that helps!

reastie · 05/07/2011 12:32

sc Grin at the weird cult Hmm . I admit I'm a newbie and struggling to keep up, but I'm doing the best I can and sure I'll slowly get to know you all as time goes on. not done much this morning as went to baby class and then tesco to get a passport photo done (finally) - I had blow dried my hair and put make up on esp so there was no way I was missing the opertunity and not get the photo taken Wink

Stillchuckingit · 05/07/2011 12:35

Oh dear, new holiday routine not going so well. Have been commandeered to work in office (everything very full on atm)

Just wanted to wave to everyone though and thank Swan for mega round up last night!! Sorry your dd is ill and your dh is limping... Hope they both recover soon.

Thanks for daily focus link CHB, er, where did you find it?? Never saw it before!!

OM good luck with all the end of term pressure/extra work!!

Ihate well done for standing firm!

Better get back to it ...

Stillchuckingit · 05/07/2011 12:39

Reastie¨good thinking - I have had to live with some truly terrifying frightful passport photos ... not good if you are forced to look at them for a decade!!

Agree that baby-steps (including barftastic Flylady speak) IS all a bit wierd and confusing at the beginning but it will eventually make sense. And it can't be easy picking your way though all our random natterings ...but hope no-one is put off!!

There was a time we used to chat about microfibre cloths .. honest ....

Ihatecobwebs · 05/07/2011 12:41

I still love my microfibre cloths - have 5 now Grin

swanriver · 05/07/2011 12:41

So, now I am going to attempt to deal with SINK, and DD's room, and put away all clean laundry I have done so far (without attempting any more laundry)
dd is lurking n the background so it is all a bit all over the place as usual, with invalid factor

I also need to clean out the fridge and make a plan for the meals from the veg box.
So far: menu looks like: butternut squash soup later in week, and freeze also
something with mince
something with chard and chickpeas
something with salad (like tuna nicoise)
something with stirfry (tonight)
