I'm considering buying some bedroom funiture which will be pine. As pine is a very soft wood how would I go about refreshing the tops/drawers of these units. I've seen some nice ones on e-bay but dont want to find the dressing table looks tatty. Would it mean sanding them down to the wood and then recoating with varnish - then the look wont be the same???? However if I get someone else to do it then it'll cost. So is it pointless.

ANyone else bought good second hand bedroom furniture . I'm looking for a small dressing table, two bedside cabs and poss in future a wardrobe.
