Hi-
Thanks to some drunk hit and run driver we need to get a new (used)car relativly quickly before the hospital run for baby no 2, due in a few weeks. My husband is keen to keep going so we may need a largeish car- I'd rather not drive a tank and need something safe and reliable enough to last some years to transport the family/ camping kit/get to work etc. Any suggestions / recomendations on makes etc very welcome as I am a bit clueless on where to start! Thanks

We've had a VW Touran and now have a Ford S-Max. The Touran was smaller and more economical, but the Ford is perhaps more versatile in that it has a larger boot. Both have 5 'normal' seats and two that pop up at the back. We have used the rear seats for fairly long journeys but in the Touran there wasn't room to take much stuff when all seven seats were in use.

Many of our friends seem to have Vauxhall Zafiras which seem similar.

Oh, and although they've both been big cars, their boxy shapes make them much easier to park than the curvier cars I'd choose given free rein. When we had a Touran and a Beetle you could park the Touran in a much smaller space than the Beetle and much more quickly because it was obvious where the corners were Grin

I have a Toyota Lucida and it can seat 8 or you fold up back seats for a huge boot plus all the back seats fold down to make a camper van! It has curtains and drives so easily! Not like a tank at all... I got ours off eBay for £2,000!

Ford Mondeo. Huge boot. Fits 3 car seats across back.

Agree that estate cars give you big seats and a boot (instead of seven weeny seats and no boot). We are on our second VW Passat diesel, going strong at 110,000 miles, the thing is indestructible. Plenty of room for 4 or 5, and huge boot.
