Burnt on rings on white cooker top. Any tips on cleaning?

Any tips for getting the hob of a white electric cooker clean?

It is in a rented house and two of the rings have a lot of built up burnt on stuff around them. It looks like it could be there for quite a while.

I've tried a de-greaser spray and lots of elbow grease and although the rest is looking ok it isn't shifting the tough stains.

Hot water and brillo pads, let it soak for a bit and then scrub off (careful, they can scratch, should be okay on enamel though, that's what I use...I love them!!
