Welcome, come away in you?ll have had your Brew. This is the April Fledgling Flyers Thread.

Thanks to WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes who was champion at leading us through March.

We are trying to stick to the Flylady © Website and her baby steps and routines to help keep our houses out of C.H.A.O.S and ready for everyday, maybe the odd visitor or two.

Check her website out but don?t sign up for emails as they are likely to inspire but fill your inbox so full we might not see you till August. Grin

The principles are:

Babysteps (one at a time)
Babysteps and 15 minutes daily decluttering
Babysteps and daily missions.

This month I will be posting the links and leading you down the road to building a routine and keeping your house under control.

It is amazing what you can achieve in a simple babystep,15 minutes a day and a little Wink chat.

CheerfulYank · 13/04/2011 18:30

Myhouse how was Rio? We don't have it at our tiny movie theater yet but I'm looking forward to taking DS when we do.

ColdHeartedBitch · 13/04/2011 19:03
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/04/2011 19:20

I've been wondering about Rio too, mixed reviews.

Well, not that much Flying today, pottering with the DCs day instead, which has been nice. Been out and about but all within half a mile of home, DD went to a friend's house, I took DS to the skatepark and then the softplay when it started raining. Just been round to a friend's house to water her plants while she was away. General pottering, bit of gardening, bit of cooking, nice day.

I'm going to try and keep up with the missions this month, have done pretty well so far, I don't have a laundry room unfortunately, so it is a corner of the kitchen. I have been doing quite a lot of detailed bits of cleaning, the cooker hood, the seals of the dishwasher etc. Although I've been doing this Flying for over a year I had really hit a plateau, so have made an effort to do more things daily or weekly instead of letting them pile up (clear incoming mail, filing, decluttering kitchen counters etc) and it has freed up a lot more time for the more detailed stuff.

I am halfway through putting winter clothes away, charity shop sorting and getting summer clothes out. I am in a dilemma about my old work clothes, very casual dress code at my new job, wear jeans, denim skirts mostly, so I don't really need my old work clothes any more, but am a bit reluctant to get rid as you never know when you are going to need them. I think I need to be ruthless. I have also created a large ironing pile by getting out all my summer cotton tops out from storage in a vacuum bag Sad.

Will pop back later to catch up with the thread - Nettie - thank you for your brilliant roundups.

Toffeefudgecake · 13/04/2011 19:56

Out all day today, taking the boys and their friends to an adventure park. They had a lovely time and are exhausted - I have high hopes for them getting off to sleep easily tonight.

DH just made me furious by saying that he hadn't noticed I did the washing up every night. I have been doing the shiny sink thing at night for a year now Angry.

Anyway, might get a chance to get back on here tomorrow. In the meantime, hope you are all well and enjoying the Easter holidays. Will try to catch up tomorrow.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/04/2011 19:59

Toffee - grrr. I don't think my DH has got the faintest idea that I clean the toilet every, single, sodding morning.

myhouseWILLbecleanthisyear · 13/04/2011 19:59

Hello all.

  1. take kids to cinema to see Rio and for something to eat - done
  2. wipe down sides - done
  3. load washing machine for Thursday - done
  4. use colour corrector on hair so I can dye it a completely different colour later. - done Just a warning to you all, if you ever decide to use the colour remover yourself, it stinks ugh
  5. Dye hair a completely different colour - tomorrow morn CBA tonight.

Rio was good thanks. Kept the kids entertained for a bit. I wouldnt see it if I didnt have children, but was worth taking them to entertain them. Especially as its orange wednesdays so we only paid for us adults.

Anyway tomorrows list:

  1. start load that it is washing machine, hang it up or get it in dryer
  2. Iron earlier load
  3. Possibly take children on a playdate. I have text friend, but have had no reply as yet.
  4. wipe down sides
  5. load washing machine for Friday
  6. Dye hair a completely different colour.

Hope you all have a lovely evening (or day cheerful)

NettieSpaghetti · 13/04/2011 21:06

linzer missed you this morning. Hope you had a good day. Do you get easter hols?
scatty hope list went ok, definitely should sign up for Ocado.com. I think they are fab, I do it on my iphone adding things everyday, deliver within hour time slot and very friendly. I?m sure you are not either but somedays personally leave me wondering. Today I muddled along best I could. Grin

Got a lot done today by alternating between 15 mins FLYing and 15 mins on the book I need to get read. I really like speed dusting - exercise at the same time! Grin Spoiled the virtuous feeling by losing it with DS1 who was having a meltdown. Entirely counterproductive and Blush-making. Hey ho.

Oh and I signed up for Zumba next week so partly looking forward to it and partly scared!

Anyway, tonight:
Wash nappies - forgot yesterday
Back up PC - ditto

Tomorrow:
nappies out
laundry
defrost something for tea
putting away
hoover
get DW tap thing
clear space in kitchen for DW - woohoo!
declutter desk

Brew - hot toddies to all the sore throats.

LinzerTorte · 14/04/2011 05:01

Morning all,

Didn't manage to return yesterday as promised as some work arrived. It needs to be finished by midday today, so I doubt I'll get much flying done this morning. The DC don't break up for Easter until tomorrow and school only closes for just over a week, but it looks like I'm going to be busy with work until mid-May so it works out quite well that they're not off school for longer (yes, I know I'm being selfish).

We had parents' evening yesterday afternoon (so parents' afternoon, really). I was only in with DD2's teacher for about a minute - she said there wasn't really much to say as DD2 is doing fine, is quiet but joins in well with the class activities. She could have told me that after the English lesson yesterday! (DD1's old teacher always used to take five minutes after the English lesson to save me going back into school again later.) DH spent longer with DD1's teacher as there was more to talk about (her dyslexia, secondary schools, etc.).

Apologies for not keeping up with the chat (have only had time to read the round-up - thanks Nettie) but I'll try to come back this afternoon once work is out of the way.

janeyjampot · 14/04/2011 07:32

Good morning!

Hope all the sore throats are on the mend.

My parents leave today, so I am hoping for a return to FLYing in earnest, rather than the smash & grab type cleaning I have been doing this week Grin

DH returns from his conference, having suffered with the altitude and being thoroughly miserable. Apparently his feet are so swollen he can't get his socks on. I am feeling sorry for him but also slightly amused that he should experience something so many women suffer in pregnancy with little sympathy!

So, as soon as my parents leave it's washing in, hoover out, and sort out the fridge, which is full of tiny pots each containing 5 cooked mange-tout etc as my Mum can't bear to throw anything out.

Good luck with the zumba, BlueEyeshadow - hope you'll love it!

CobwebCinders · 14/04/2011 07:54

lol

my mum does that

one thing on ten saucers in the fridge

scattyspice · 14/04/2011 08:20

My dh does the 10 things on saucers in the fridge!!

toffee I was explaining flylady to my mum and dh asked when I was going to start (I've been flying for about 2 yrs!) Angry. My Mum didn't seem impressed either (she super organised and has never had trouble keeping the house clean). Hey Ho.

laundry, laundry
rainbows fundraiser with dd (books for stall Hmm)
early night.

Half way through DS room - not as bad acutally even DS has helped bless, managed to pack away bob the builder vehicles for garage without much protest, I havtnt he hear to suggest more. DS(5) has many other bits which he plays with very little now - tons of Thomas, stickle bricks, workbench&tools (never played with these much) mixtures of figures. I feel exasperated at how much he has - too much, maybe cos hes still in tiny room still. Hmm Feel great ive made earlier start and once his room is done I will power through the rest - cleaning is easy and satisfying, its the tidying and relocating and sorting that needs to be done Angry - how did it get to this?!!!!

I could just say DS is ill and cancel tomorrow - i have thought about it! Grin

Toffeefudgecake · 14/04/2011 13:44

Scatty - grr to your dh and mum. I'm sure they'd notice if you stopped Flying though.

WhoKnows - my dh doesn't notice that I do the toilet daily either Angry. He told me proudly that he had done it the other morning, as if it never got done.

Nettie - good luck at the funeral of your friend today Sad.

Linzer - hope you manage to do your work OK

Did someone mention meltdowns? I have speed read and can't find it now. Anyway, whoever you are, I sympathise: DS1 had a huge meltdown a couple of days ago because he thought I 'snatched' his ice cream (I took it from him so he could get his shoes on). He then refused to come out with us. It's so exhausting.

Have been a Good Mum this morning and played Monopoly Junior with both DC (separately, as they can't cope with playing it together yet Confused) and 'police cars' with DS2 [yawn emoticon]. Have also managed to get a couple of washing loads on and sort the kitchen out. Was going to declutter the bedroom, but appear to be running out of time now, as we are about to go into town to do some chores and meet friends. MIL left this morning, so need to sort out beds later. I must say, it's lovely not having work or the school run to worry about. Much more relaxing (apart from the odd meltdown, of course).

Must go and grab some lunch. Bye for now.

ColdHeartedBitch · 14/04/2011 14:32

FUCK. I just blew up the washing machine :( Blush :(
