Have just heard a survey that says 1 in 20 of us only change our bedding twicw a year. How disgusting... remind me not to day ver at their homes. There is nothing nicer than gettting in to newly washed sheets. Who are these people? Come on own up how often do you change yours?

Each week for me. Would love to do it every day but don't have sufficient time or bedding!!
Fold duvet covers neatly so they don't need ironing also have a throw on top so any creases can't be seen. Don't iron fitted sheets either, stretching them pulls out the creases. Always iron piilow slips, they have to have creases in them (OCD !)Smile

Once a week, pillow cases sometimes more often. You shed skin every night and leave it behind on the sheets. The dust mites then eat it for dinner .. so if you allergic like me you will want to clean the bed at least once a week!

QuinionsRainbow · 11/02/2011 11:51

Once a week, generally on Fridays. Thanks for reminding me!

hugebelly · 11/02/2011 14:52

Once a week here and only because the cleaner does it.

If I did it, it would be every two to three weeks.

Speckledeggy · 12/02/2011 11:22

Once a week here.

I think daily is bordering on obsessive. Do people have nothing else to do?!

DaisySteiner · 12/02/2011 12:38

I once had a boyfriend who basically only changed the sheets if I did it for him. So they only got changed when I came to stay (which wasn't very often, unsurprisingly!) Once it was about 6 weeks and my god, they hummed! I can't imagine what it would be like after 6 months!!

Once a fortnight here - there are six of us and dh and I both work full time. I struggle to keep up with the washing as it is!

CameronCook · 12/02/2011 20:45

Ugh how do these people who only change their bed twice a year ever find someone willing to share it with them???

Once a week in the winter, 2/3 times a week in the summer.

DreamTeamGirl · 12/02/2011 23:19

As I recall Getorf is the most regular changer, and I totally understand and respect why

For myself, its almost always weekly
Sunday for the boy and Monday for me, but I am considering heading up to bed shortly and changing mine before I get in cos I washed my hair & pjs today so am feeling generally very clean

Like Chipping, when I win the lottery I am paying someone to change mine daily

Boohooyou · 12/02/2011 23:25

once a fortnight ish for me and 2 yr old ds.

Rhian82 · 12/02/2011 23:32

Once a fortnight.

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/02/2011 23:35

I think it makes sense for me - I am not borderline OCD!

Me and DP sleep with no clothes on, so to not change them daily (or as near as dammit) would be like wearing the same clothes two days in a row.

Plus, me and DP are restless sleepers, the bed is a mess in the morning anyway, so is just as easy to strip the sheets off in the morning as it is to make the bloody thing.

I just shove the sheets in to wash in the morning, then pin them out on the line/tumble dry them in the evening, and out on clean sheets just before I go to bed. Takes minutes.

And it is lovely having clean sheets every day.

Clary · 12/02/2011 23:42

Every week. Weds for ours, Fri for the kids'.

I iron it too (not the fitted sheets tho).

GOMY respect for that. I don't love changing the bed at all, tho I do love the clean sheets. Duvet cover must be ironed tho.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 12/02/2011 23:44

Well, if it makes you happy.... Grin

Bedding changed here every three weeks or so. We both wear stuff in bed.

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/02/2011 23:44

Oh I can't be arsed with ironing.

Usually the sheets etc are OK. They spend some time in the airing cupboard so the creases normally come out.

I have god knows how many duvet and sheet sets - about 15 I would say.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 12/02/2011 23:45

I do not iron.

Life is too short for ironed bedding.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 12/02/2011 23:47

You have 15 sets???

Good lord.

Do you like them all? I think I've only ever owned 15 in total including the minging ones I've got rid of. Over 20 years.

QBEE · 12/02/2011 23:47

How disgusting is it if I change the duvet cover and shams every three weeks?

I do though wash the flat sheets, bottom sheets and pillowcases approx 3-4 times a week... Skin never touches the duvet or shams

Clary · 12/02/2011 23:49

what on earth is a sham? You say it twice so it can't be a typo Grin

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/02/2011 23:51

I have no idea why I have so many sheets.

I bought loads of sheets last year in various sales, and have still kept my old ones 'just in case'. I still think in my head that I need to keep sheets for dd to make dens and camps with (although she is 15).

Plus there are winter sets and summer sets.

AliGrylls · 12/02/2011 23:51

Once a week for DH and I. Once every 2 weeks for DS' on account of the fact they are less sweaty.

QBEE · 12/02/2011 23:52

pillow shams are quilted pillowcases. Not for sleeping on in my house Grin

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/02/2011 23:54

What happens if you DP happens to lie his head on your sham (with dribbling risks) - does it make you homicidal? Grin

I nearly had a panic attack when DP took my new cushions out in the garden in the summer to rest his sweaty head on wilst sunbathing.

DivineInspiration · 12/02/2011 23:55

I change my bedding once a week (usually Saturday), but never iron. I reckon my (single, 20-year-old brother) doesn't even do his annually, so it's possibly young men and students who make up the one in twenty stat.

I think a sham is a decorative pillow and/or one of those ornate pieces of fabric which 'decorate' the bed? My mum has both and that's what I think she's referring to when she talks about her 'shams'.

Or, it's a Yiddish word for something completely different.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 12/02/2011 23:58

If you don't sleep on them, why do you change them? Is it not a glorified cushion cover?

QBEE · 12/02/2011 23:58

No no no GetOrf.

That would never happen as I take the shams and duvet off the bed before getting in and position the comforter over the flat sheet for warmth. The comforter is not allowed to be pulled up past the chest/over the flatsheet.
