Or are they ruined?

How do I clean them?

Can you wait for it to dry and try peeling/chipping it off?

KatyMac · 04/02/2011 09:57

They are dry, very dry & chipping is not working well

Oh dear. Can't think of anything else. Would it be worth going in to a small independent jewellers (the sort that offer repairs) and asking?

IzziesMummy · 04/02/2011 10:17

I'd just try a little bit of nail polish remover on a cotton wool ball. If they're amber and silver/gold I don't think the acetone should harm them

KatyMac · 04/02/2011 10:25

Yes amber & gold

The local jewellers said all they would try is nail varnish remover

So just to dab with a cotton bud then rinse (over & over again); so that is this evenings job

Doesn't WD40 get things off sometimes? Might be worth a try.

pippop1 · 04/02/2011 23:08

I found a website that says WD40 gets nailvarnish off hardwood floors so I reckon you have a chance to use it on the amber. Also you put it on locks (well we do) and it doesn't hurt them so it should be OK on the gold part of your earrings.

Good Luck KatyMac.

Well I used
Nail varnish
Cotton buds
a tub of water

It has come off but the amber is very dull now

eeeek...i'd have tried acetone free remover

however, if you have a local jeweller who makes stuff they ought to be able to polish them up for you on a buffing wheel.

I polish my amber with a few drops of olive oil, then polish off with a very soft clean cloth. It brings up a beautiful shine.
