Can anyone recommend me a good casserole dish for hob and oven?

That's it really.

I shattered a Le Creuset years ago by putting it on the hob. The care instructions did say in hindsight not suitable for hob.

TIA.

Le Creuset - mine is 20 years old and goes on hob and in oven here

They are not cheap but after 20 years and a few other casserole dishes have gone to the cooker in the sky and this one is still going

or soemthing like this?

Le Creuset.

I use mine on the hob all the time. I have some newer ones but also ones which have belonged to my Mum and Grandma and are still going strong after 30 years use.

the cast iron Le Creuset - is a it a cocotte ?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/01/2011 10:19

LIZS - good point. It is only the cast iron that can be used on the hob as well as the oven.

I have a set of Stellar pans that can go from hob to oven... had one set since we got married over 10 years ago and one set I won on here 4 years ago, all still going strong...

I have this one which is fantastic and we use it for everything, including for general frying. I realise this isn't entirely helpful as it's no longer being sold, but there'll be something else like it around. I recommend it.

If you don't want to spend stupid money on Le Creuset, Viners do a nice set, with a very large metal casserole dish/saucepan and lid, with a removeable steamer and rice cooker inside.

Or try T K Maxx - they usually have a good selection of this type of thing.

or one of these will do nicely (not sure why I ended up at the US site) - I have one and it's big enough to cook a chicken or a average size roast in...very heavy but can be used on the hob as well
