I'm due 3 weeks on Saturday - booked for an ELCS 3 weeks on Monday unless things get going before then!

JKS - ooh lovely :)

Dave - I just love storage, I have a dreadful obsession with it. My drawstring bags for puzzles/dominoes etc arrived this morning and I've just spent a happy half hour sorting out the chaotic puzzle and game box Grin [slightly OCD emoticon]

FreakoidOrganisoid · 02/03/2011 14:56

Dave I like that prescription, will you be my GP please?

Spent yesterday having big clear out and washing down all the baby stuff that was in the shed ready to try and sell it at a nearly new sale on Sun. Accidentally dyed the booster seat thingy pink by sticking the cover in the machine with some bright stuff, whoops. Hopefully someone will like it pink!

Wasting I have finally posted to you as well, sorry it's been so long and hope you like at least some of it! It was all 2nd hand to ds apart from one pair of jeans that have never been worn cos they were the wrong shape for him so don't feel bad about getting rid if it's no good to you!

3 weeks ali Shock Hope you're not in too much pain now.

I love storage too Grin Have a good few cupboards still to sort through when I summon up the energy, nothing like everything having a place.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 02/03/2011 14:59

Oh and yes to oven pride, good shit that Grin I still use soda crystals in between to wipe round the inside but you can't beat oven pride for a thorough clean (just don't forget the gloves because it does melt your hands!)

JustKeepSwimming · 02/03/2011 15:01

Ali - i like the sound of those bags, where did you get them from?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/03/2011 16:04

JKS - I got them online from a company called 'Clever Baggers'. They are amazingly cheap, and these turned up in only 2/3 days.

Freak - I'm fine if I sit down somewhere comfy. It's walking, going up stairs, crawling about on the floor that is the problem. Still, only a few weeks to go and then I'll feel better

TODAY
All up and dressed - done
Spatone + vitamins
Breakfast and tidy kitchen - done
Unload dishwasher - done
Make beds and tidy upstairs - done
Make rice crispy cakes with DS - no he wanted to do colouring instead

FreakoidOrganisoid · 02/03/2011 16:25

And I remember well refusing to get down on the floor to play with dd in the last few weeks of pregnancy Blush

Anonymousbird · 02/03/2011 17:30

`Hello everyone, and welcome to Onlywantsone!

Oh a day of mixed fortunes! Had some great (boring) news on something for the house that the building inspector unexpectedly agreed to - have it in writing as well, so if he later claims he was away/asleep/drunk/not paying attention or whatever, then tough. We were very very surprised, not least my builder!!

And then, on a bit of a downer, just been to see consultant with DS and his eyes. He has very bad eyes, we've been under the care of the consultant on a very regular basis for pushing 4 years now (he is 6). ANYWAY, the latest is a cyst under his eyelid which caused a bloody bubble over his eye ten days ago. It's gone down but not completely, and unlikely ever to go away on its own so still is kind of across his eye and the only way to get rid is to operate. Sad

Anyway, I know he will be fine, it's quick, but means a light general which is the scariest part for me. DD had one a couple of years back and oh my god, that moment will be with me for ever!

minimammoth · 02/03/2011 19:01

Am looking at celebrations for PILs birthday he's 90. Any ideas. Some want a family party, but where, how? we all live a distance. so it would have to be a hotel do. Am not enthused.

Anonymousbird · 02/03/2011 19:14

That moment, when they go under . We have a very good friend who is a consultant anaesthetist and as luck would have it, we were away with him just the week that DD was having her op so he prepared me and reassured me and talked me through what it would be like. And thank god he did! Because I was still a complete state, but I'd have been much worse if he hadn't talked me through it....

This time, it's in the middle of the Easter Holidays, which is good from the point of view that he doesn't miss school/has time to recover properly BUT DH will be abroad and the PIL's are away on holiday, so it's just little old me to deal with DS getting put to sleep and keeping DD under control. I don't think I have anyone I can leave her with, not at 7 in the morning anyway!

OP posts:
Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/03/2011 19:25

Oh Anon :( Is there no way that you can get them to change the date of the op? Seems hard you having to deal with it all by yourself.

Mini - hmm that's a tough one. Are people prepared to pay out for a hotel etc? What about just a lunchtime thing, would you all be able to go there and back in a day - Sunday lunch out somewhere posh perhaps?

JKS - that sounds really interesting. In my naivety I hadn't realised that wet nurses often left their own children to die in order to nurse a child with rich parents. Pretty awful :(

DS took himself off upstairs earlier to play in his room - was it wrong of me to leave him to it and come downstairs and have a cuppa in peace? I can't really see a problem but for some reason I felt really guilty!

Ali - not at all unreasonable, don't feel guilty!! Kids need to learn to play independently and i love it when both the boys are off playing somewhere :)
DS1 particularly now likes to go and play upstairs - partly as he can shut the gate & DS2 can't bother him Hmm

DS2 needs his own space too and likes to go off and play without me hovering. Suits me Grin

OnlyWantsOne - i have 2 boys, 4 & 3 and expecting DC3 (surprise) in April :)

I need to knuckle down re the research & thinking how i will present it but not tonight, all light-headed and tired. Tomorrow will do.

Onlywantsone - DS is 6, DD is 5, almost exactly a year between them, so I didn't go for number 3! I am currently full time at home, which is full time project manager for my house renovation - see pics on my profile, though, we've progressed since then (a bit!) so I should update... needless to say, we are NOT living in the property!

Ali - I could postpone it, but then it won't be until May/June, and then of course there is still every chance DH might be away and then we get into the time when we want to move back into our house.... May and June are going to be frantic, so I think the April slot, although it will be stressful, is best cos it gets it done and quite soon.... though, not broken the news to DH yet, he knows he needs the op, just not when. Will talk properly later, once we are sat down.

I too had not realised the full connotation of "wet nurses". Grief.

Only - I've just got DS atm, he is 2.7. I'm a SAHM, with no plans to go back to work until DC are settled in school - this is going to be our last baby :)

minimammoth · 02/03/2011 20:42

Anon sorry I didn't read all the thread. It does seem a lot for you to do on your own, I hope someone will step up for you.
Thing is Ali, PILs birthday is within days of DD2s due date, and I do want to be there for the birth. SIL is coming from Canada and will expect arrangements to be made. Senior BIL has already made an excuse ( very selfishly in my opinion) I mean how often is your father 90 FGS (don't get me started). So its going to be one of 'those' occasions. I think a sort of tea party would work, but wonder if any hotels are willing to do that kind of thing.
Onlywantsone, I am a granny, have 3 DCs and 2 DGC wih another soon.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/03/2011 20:57

Mini - yes I'm sure a hotel will do that, infact we've had similar at various places in the past. I would think you would do better with an independent rather than a big chain which will probably have a minimum spend/numbers if you want any kind of private room or 'fenced off' bit.
Hope you are still going to ask Senior BIL for a contribution to the cost Wink

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/03/2011 20:59

Anon - yes I can see why you want it done and dealt with asap.

minimammoth · 02/03/2011 21:19

Rant Alert. senior BIL is saying oh we'll go an see father at a later time, his birthday celebration will last longer that way. Which is nice, but all PIL wants is for his family to be together just for one day. ( I understand this as it something I often wish for)
Ok you can come out now. I will look at the independents. Good idea.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/03/2011 21:34

Mini - Angry there is one tit in every family. In 30 years time that will be my eldest 'D'B, the stupid arse.

Anonymousbird · 02/03/2011 22:50

There is "one" in every family, oh you are so right! My Sis (absolutely not DSis) is ours.

Mini - PIL has every bloody right to get them all together on one day, and without wanting to sound morbid, it might be the last BIG chance to get everyone together to celebrate with him.... (IYSWIM) so too right. Of course he may last another decade (and I hope he does!) but you never know....

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 03/03/2011 06:33

Mini - I so agree, it's not that much to ask really.
What has bugged me in our family in the past is that everyone makes an effort to come to the funeral when the deceased couldn't give a monkeys, but made no effort in the year or so preceding when the person was ill, grrrrrr.
My uncle was out 'family tit' - he passed away 2 years ago and there wasn't a mad rush to his funeral....my mum's brother, she was sad but the rest of us being honest weren't - that sounds terrible but after he told me that my mum would have been better off if she'd died instead of surviving her cancer treatment (and he never visited her during the bloody awful treatment so never saw her at her worst), i could never forgive him, w*nker!

sorry, turned into a rant of my own!!
