Can you get the pile back in a high traffic area carpet.

The centre of my living room carpet is starting to look worn and matted compared to the outsides which still have that lovely fluffy look.

Is there anyway to restore that look?

Get down low, with torch and magnifying glass if necessary, and examine the carpet. Has it simply been flattened? In which case steam-cleaning will probably restore it beautifully. But if the fibres are actually worn down or missing, then there's not much you can do. Other than buy a pretty rug.

I've got a rubber hand brush which seems to help, this one.
