Need new vaccumn cleaner, preferably in sales?

Hi, Does anyone know of any good offers on vacumn cleaners at the moment - am vaguelyl aware of ads for offers, but no specifics as didn't think we would need one, but now realise our much loved very old vax is dying.

We have wooden floors downstairs, and carpets upstairs.

TBH, could do without buying one at the moment - dh unemployed, post Christmas etc, but don't have much choice so would prefer to get a good one - our vax lasted 17 yrs!

TIA

Argos, Currys. I'm looking for hoover too! Either a Dyson or Miele - methinks!!

TeaOneSugar · 02/01/2011 16:19

Our Dyson is on it's last legs, there were some good offers around last week on a basic one, Curry's price was about average.

We are unfortunately undecided on the style, I want a cylinder, DH wants an upright.

I'm in a similar position. I've been secretly waiting for our 10 year old Dyson to give up the ghost as I've been coveting a Miele Cat & Dog. Argos currently have them on sale at £30 off at £169. Unfortunately, the Argos website says they are out of stock for home delivery and they do not have any left at stores near me. Maybe you might be luckier. Having said that, I don't recall Argos stocking Miele before, so it might be that they just bought a few in for the sale to hook people in?

Miele, Dysons are pap.

I had to replace my carpets in two rooms as they sucked the edges up it's that powerful.

I soon discovered there was a dial the lessen the suction Grin

MissAnthrope · 02/01/2011 17:15

The Miele cat and dog is on offer in Argos and there's a voucher on the website giving a £20 voucher if you spend over £100 on a vacuum cleaner.

Debenhams has some on sale

so does John Lewis

Try a Sebo - no idea on the sales but they're fab and I wouldn't go back to any other make (I've had them all!)

Just bought a Vax Power 6 for £99.99 in Comet (usually £160) and it's amazing. Actually sucks the pile back up - carpets look brand new. I'm a bit addicted to it actually, vacuumed twice today.

ooh will have a look at suggetsions below. Our Electrolux upright went bang and fused the lounge with pine needle overload. Also have wooden floors (which mark with wheels) and carpet in lounge/study only (have a small light one for upstairs). alternatively we have a built in system in need of a new hose (probably 5m long) if anyone knows where we might get one. I thought Dysons were supposed to last a lifetime Hmm

TeaOneSugar · 02/01/2011 18:39

We're on our second Dyson!

Unfortuntely my DH won't look at any other brand.

chuckeyegg · 02/01/2011 19:13

sebo is a good make, some vax on amazon in the sale.

x

LIZS · 10/01/2011 15:56

flaime · 10/01/2011 20:12

stressheaderic soooo glad you said that as we've just ordered that one from comet too.
