How to get the smell of petrol out of clothes

Hi can anyone help?

My DP accidentally poured kerosene over herself (don't ask!)

We put the clothes through the washing machine immediately but they still stink of petrol.

Any ideas about how to get rid of the smell to salvage the clothes?

TIA

wtf? Confused

Lots it sounds like perhaps you need something to break down the petrol and allow it to mix with the water. It's probably "coated" the clothes and made them in effect waterproof.

I'm not really sure what you could use to do this but perhaps it's a starting point to google?

this might help

Sorry! Toddler got at keyboard!!
I was going to post I don't think you have much luck, lol. Any other chemical you use will have its own hard-to-shift residual stink, most likely.
