urgh gunge in the inside rubber bit of washing machine...

hello, right, this is going to be difficult to explain, but i have just finished washing a load of white sheets, took them out and there is filthy black/grey gunk all over it. looks like it has come from the inside rubber seal from the door, i had a look and the inside rubber bit is covered in black/grey gunk, i've tried to clean as much out as possible, but its horrible...

this hasn't happened before with my washes,
any ideas what to do???

run bleach on a cloth round it every so often.

Your washing machine may be getting old or is not filtering away the gunk properly.

I wipe a baby wipe round the rubber.

do you use powder or liquid? I found using liquid detergent caused my washing to get marks on it. I have switched to using powder and it has definitely made a difference. I also regularly do a 90 degree wash with no clothes and the powder detergent and also clean out the dispenser drawer. I regularly wipe the seal after a wash using a bit of kitchen roll.

Mine did that.

I ran it empty with soda crystals in it, and wiped about the seal with a cloth.

It's worse if I over fill it. It's been fine recently though.

thanks for the replies, i had to put the whites in again and it was okay 2nd time after i had wiped what i could of the black gunk off with paper towels...

i use gel tabs.

i'll try the soda crystals!

...or run it with white vinegar..which is great. But it has to be white....
