yes, had them professionally cleaned and it still didn't go. I was told that it is dust that comes up from the floorboards underneath and the way to prevent it is to get carpets so dark it doesn't show of have the boards underneath sealed in some way.

However I think its because I don't vacuum right up to the edges and am a lazy slut!

I thought it was where the hoover didn't clean to the edges, so is accumulated dust/dirt.

To solve it... I was thinking I might get the Dyson's special tough dirt brush... but then I'd have to use it.

We have this on beige carpet and have had carpets professionally cleaned a few times but this discolouration doesn't go.

Apparently you do need to have the the edges sealed before ew carpet is laid. If you don't have this colouring on the top floor of your house then it makes sense that it's dust coming from under the floorboards - we don't have a cellar, just a metre or so's gap under our 1931 house. I want new carpets!

We have this problem in our lounge, there's a 6ft space under our floor so plenty of scope for dust coming up under the floor boards.

The only thing I've found that helps is one of those rubber scrubber brushes, the static charge does seem to dislodge more of the dirt than the vaccum cleaner.
