I bought a new kettle yesterday - not an expensive one but it was half price.

I have refilled and boiled it numerous times but my tea tastes plastically.

Should I just take it back and buy a better one, or is this normal?

I am gasping for a proper cup of tea - I actually can't drink the tea from this water, it's that bad Sad

Oh dear - how strange. I would take it back if still a problem. Not normal IME.

My sister can't drink from her kettle when it has been delimescaled. Was your old one very furry or soemthing? Could be the 'clean water'

But I would take it back anyway.

In the meanwhile, boil some water in a pan, or in a pyrex jug in the microwave.

If you have any denture tablets in the house it might be worth cleaning with one first.

But otherwise god no, take it back and get a metal one! I took back a toaster which I had bought (and used) because it didn't take a whole slice of bread, it poked out the top, and they didn't bat an eyelid.

thank you for your replies - am just off to buy some bi-carb. Havaing researched, apparently putting a couple of teaspoons in can help. If it doesn't work, definitely taking it back.

It is not the water, my last kettle just died without warning!

Couldn´t the strange water taste come from formaldehyde? Two day ago I bought a cheap plastic kettle. It smells of chemicals. I treated it several time with bicarb, once with vinegar/water solution, washed it with dish soap, rinsed it a dozen time but it still smells and tea tastes horrible.
