I need some help! We've had the gastric bug through the house and one of the dd's didn't make it to the bathroom in time. The carpet reeks although we'ved tried to clean it. We've cleared the debris, washed it with carpet cleaner, disinfectant, and currently have sprinkled baking soda over the area.

Do you have any more tried and tested or recommended tips please?

is it bicarbonate of soda you have used (rather than baking powder which is not the same)? Neutradol also do a powder you can sprinkle on and it neutralises odours - it worked in dhs car after dd puked all over it
