Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

DidEinsteinsMum · 28/10/2010 23:58

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

swan I usually force myself to wait until 7 for a glass of wine (more of an incentive to get DC to bed, puts DH and me in a better mood, makes tidying up more bearable) but I can see that starting at 6 would have its advantages. Grin It might make the bedtime stress slightly more bearable... will have to wait until next week to try it out, however, as I have to stay alcohol-free while I have work to do.

BobLoblaw · 04/11/2010 10:52

Morning DiD, thanks for the links, hope you can get some rest today and you feel better.

Morning systems

Have a lovely time PMPY

I order you to eat the cake ellie I just ate banana cake for breakfast. If I don't do the evening routine (which I start in the afternoon so it's mostly finished by the time ds is in bed) I can't manage the morning one, it really helps :)

Could you do an english christmas, turkey, stockings, presents from you etc at your house on christmas day Linzer? I have lots of family so including pil we usually have 3 christmas days, it's lovely?

Well done highlighter the routines alone really help me keep on top of everything.

I've made a mental note of your occupation OM Grin mil is constantly berating ds' school for not stretching him Hmm at the moment I'm just happy he wants to go every day. Oh and I'd go for Tesco but I can barely touch my toes anymore!

Ooh labour bag MM how exciting :)

Sorry swan that must be hard going, I resort to wine before bed time occasionally too, I can't wait to have hot cider and mulled wine, it's seasonal so practically fine at any time.

Dd didn't go back to sllep until 2.30 and we were up at 6.00, I'm shattered but dp went to buy me nice sandwiches and I've eaten too much banana cake and drunk too much coffee

Today
-Morning routine done
-Load of washing done and in dryer
-DS to school, with shoebox, show and tell and parents evening form done
-Christmas cards done 15
-Clear hotspots on hall done
-Clear out rubbish in 3 handbags *done Blush
-Sort washing
-Organise dd's school things for tomorrow
-Evening routine

Hope everyone has a nice day :)

LinzerTorte · 04/11/2010 11:30

Despite two coffees, am really struggling to concentrate on Austrian agriculture now - luckily DD1 will be home in about half an hour so I have an excuse to stop work then (and start practising the national anthem). I also have an appointment at the dermatologist's this afternoon to have a mole removed, so fingers crossed that it's nothing to worry about.

More coffee, Bob? Grin We actually do celebrate for three days most years - Austrian Christmas on the 24th, British Christmas on the 25th (DH is already looking forward to the turkey) and DD1's birthday on the 26th.

SylviaPankhurst · 04/11/2010 11:35

Cake for breakfast sounds just the thing as it is raining and vile outside in the North. You are tempting me to make one to be honest.

Today

Stairs - clean
Hallway mission
15 minutes on study
15 minutes filing
Creating new filing system (which I dreamed about last night!)
Sync kitchen calendar to iphone
Consider doing some christmas cards ;)
Shopping
Christmas menu planning and do butchers list for ordering in advance
Bill paying and financial sort out

DancingIceDragons · 04/11/2010 11:38

if you were a bag of chocolate buttons where would you hide?

DancingIceDragons · 04/11/2010 11:40

Blush whoops sorry wrong thread. Buttons have been found and are now irratreviable Grin

swanriver · 04/11/2010 12:32

I'm making progress, but I think I'm going to have to tear myself away from ever-grimey kitchen (warning - don't look on those greasy top shelves) and sort out children's rooms.

Goal is to have clothes folded in drawers. Last month's goal was to have the right clothes in right drawers, but I think I can be a bit more sophisticated now!

swanriver · 04/11/2010 12:40

And I have decluttered all shelves/mantles of photos/ornaments etc to make room for Xmas decs and cards to come.

DancingIceDragons · 04/11/2010 13:08

heaxgons are bloody awful shapes. It seemed a good idea at the time but if it had been square it would have been easier to finish up this present.

I will be back to do the round up later. Having a nightmare with what should be a fairly straight forward job. Must go find the plasters as have stuck a pin into my finger and it is gushing Hmm

Today's list: finish the presents that are being sent tomo.
Present 1. fucking thing nice idea but practicality is harder then realised which means more time consuming.
Present 2.

deadline 6pm. Biscuit

sittinghippo · 04/11/2010 13:12

Good work Swan. I did a drawer sort out last month, and its all ticking along smoothly, esp as I now am better at Booting the Laundry!

Had a productive morning, hoovered top to bottom, cleaned mirrors and got washing on etc, mission done, lunched and now I'm going for a lay down. I went to the cinema with DH last night and for some daft reason I agreed to watch Paranormal Activity... I DID NOT sleep well afterwards...
So now I'm pooped.

Catch up later

Oh and I don't have cake for breakfast, I'm very good and have muesli, and then about half hour later I start on the cake... Hmm

optimisticmumma · 04/11/2010 13:43

Bob - followed your advice and went to Tesco. It was heaving and I spent £150 - eek!

Have now rebooted laundry and woken v. lazy DD and given her lunch!

Meeting a friend for cup of tea and will walk home to get some sort of exercise!!

Rest of the list is looking a bit...left....

Will get to it with renewed vigour later Wink

swanriver · 04/11/2010 14:13

removed an enormous bag of stuff from dd's room and put it in loft (in case she asks for it Blush threw away another bag of stuff, and folded clothes in drawers/put away clean stuff. Cleared her worktops and tops of shelves for xmas stuff.

ds2 room next.

BobLoblaw · 04/11/2010 15:08

Well done swan I tackled dc's bedrooms in the summer and they've been much better ever since.

At what age do dc start sleeping in OM ? Ds is up before 6 usually, dd is a law unto herself Grin

Was it good sitting ? You've been very productive and reminded me I need to do the mirrors.

Are you going to do a big reveal DiD ? I'd love to see them.

Christmas menu planning Sylvia...you put me to shame, I'm very impressed. Some lovely recipes in the christmas Good Food this month too :)

I had an energy drink Linzer Confused was not a good idea. That sounds a lovely way of doing it, I love prolonging christmas.

Today
-Morning routine done
-Load of washing done and in dryer
-DS to school, with shoebox, show and tell and parents evening form done
-Christmas cards done 15
-Clear hotspots on hall done
-Clear out rubbish in 3 handbags done
-Sort washing
-Organise dd's school things for tomorrow done
-Evening routine

I've been very un-productive and dd has just ffallen asleep on me, I fear todays flying is not going to happen.

swanriver · 04/11/2010 15:15

tidied ds2's room
took all rubbish out of ds1's room

a start anyway - no time to change beds
at least laundry is now dealt with and not festooning house

PositiveAttitude · 04/11/2010 15:16

helllooooooooeeeeee!

Just come on to gloat share that I have just done my tax return. (after it being on my list of things "to do" since July Blush) Ok, Ok, not quite fat fairy stuff, but it is a major acheivement for me today.

I have been banned from doing any flying, and to be honest I feel so awful, I havent even got the energy to argue for my independence.

I will try to catch up with the thread, but please forgive lack of messages for now.

At 4pm I am making a trip to the new waitrose which opened today, the first on the island, and its where DH now works, so got to support them - plus planning to pick up some yummy treats!

Tomorrow I have a hairdressers appointment, although had to do a bit of wangling and pulling strings to get them to agree to a dry cut, as they dont normally do them, but no way can I have my hair washed in a sink. Anyway, hope to feel a little pampered and less nest like.

No long lists for me, just counting down the days. 8 to go, then I can start the road back to feeling as normal as I ever have been Wink.

massive waves to all you lovely lot. Grin

DancingIceDragons · 04/11/2010 15:46

That's it. I admit defeat. i cant even see straight never mind stand up. Pryesents will have to go by royal mail post rather then people post.

MrsD would you be so kind as to do the round up tonight if you get chance? I will sort out steps first thing. Must sleep.

Oh and if someone figures out how the hell ds can be so perky and full of life despite so little sleep will you let me know how I can get the same effect. Caffine just dont cut it today.

Sorry.

Good to see you PA. Rest up and well done on the tax return!

swanriver · 04/11/2010 15:59

dcs home from school, now have to go back again for parents' meeting -
have fed kids on shreddies, tinned apricots and nutella in the meantime Grin ds2 has already managed to pour milk over himself and the sofa, hey ho...

DID- yes hexagons multiply at a horrifying rate if its patchwork you are doing
PA tell us what you recommend from Waitrose, never quite sure if I can be bothered to desert Morrisons and its bounty. Sorry you are feeling so awful - have you told Dr that you are feeling worse and worse?

Toffeefudgecake · 04/11/2010 17:09

Just a 'flying' visit into this thread to say hello to everyone. Have tried to catch up on everyone's news, but I see I will need more time than I have. I have only gleaned a bit.

What is up with your son, Did? I can find references, but get lost in the thread.

So sorry you are feeling so ill, PA. You are having such a rough time, you poor thing. Hopefully, you will feel better after the op and can enjoy good health at Xmas.

Bob - you made me laugh: your DH's grandfather 'high as a kite' on medication in hospital. Hope my MIL is having as good a time.

I was a whirlwind of activity yesterday. MN not allowed! I had a thorough clean up in our sitting room and discovered a plastic bottle under the sofa with something brown festering in it Shock and little black bugs living behind the books in our bookcase Shock Shock. Also found an awful lot of cobwebs, one of them containing an eight-legged beastie. Spent an awful long time hoovering up all the bugs and beasties, then half filled a binbag with rubbish. The thing is - the sitting room was my good room. It hadn't actually been looking too bad. It was only when I paid closer attention that I realised I was sharing it with other creatures.

Have been decluttering and sticking to Flylady routines, so feel I am making some progress. MIL is coming here to convalesce once she is out of hospital, so I have an incentive to get the house in order first.

Am making decluttering and sticking to my routines and babysteps the priority at the moment. I keep remembering the mantra: you can't clean clutter.

Must go and cook now. Bye for now.

MrsDinky · 04/11/2010 17:47

Will do DEM, sleep tight.

Back later.

SylviaPankhurst · 04/11/2010 18:06

I thought today was a bad day but:

done
Sync kitchen calendar to iphone
Bill paying and financial sort out
Shopping
Christmas menu planning and do butchers list for ordering in advance

Also had to collect kids from school as the river burst its banks and they were stranded as coaches couldnt get through! Last year one of the coaches got into the river so am very glad they didnt try. If it stays raining there will be no school tomorrow for two of mine. I am supposed to be visiting a charity I work with for the deaf and blind but if they are at home no chance. Its a pain as this is the second time I have let them down in a row through no fault of mine!

not done for tomorrow!
Stairs - clean
Hallway mission
15 minutes on study
15 minutes filing
Creating new filing system (which I dreamed about last night!)

Consider doing some christmas cards ;)

purplewednesday · 04/11/2010 18:07

Finally managed to come back here to say hello!

Had a good break - a night at the coast on sunday, feel better for a good cry at the grave (sorry, sounds so morbid). anyway, have been rushing round like a blue arsed fly since i got back - DH working long hours this week and i am having trouble getting anything that vaguely resembles a routine now i am back at work.

Today at work was mandatory training and it finished earlier than timetabled (hooray) so i am back early enough to get onto mumsnet before the bed/bath/bollocking/book malarkey starts.

The amount of laundry to sort out/iron is shameful Blush
and I am very impressed with you all thinking and doing christmas things.

I saw a link posted earlier to a site about flying with a baby. I am off to look at that one now.

Not planning on doing a huge amount tomorrow (don't work fridays and mondays) because it's my birthday. There have already been quite a few cards arrive in the post which is lovely, but its just a reminder that i won't be getting a card from my Mum...Sad

PA you live an an island? How lovely. I'd like to live on Jersey. I could get a job as a nurse and rent a house, but even the rental prices are extortionate there!

DID If I were a bag of chocolate buttons I would hide in the top drawer of the dresser in the spare room. Noone else goes there apart from me...

geekygiraffe · 04/11/2010 18:15

bookmarking...
sounds like it's been a productive thursday for most people : ) I'm finding the missions ok, as we don't have a hall or a porch - is that cheating? did clean windows (some of them) though...

PositiveAttitude · 04/11/2010 18:30

Purple - The Isle of Wight!! And talking of chocolate buttons, DD2 (17) has excelled herself this afternoon. She saw some "buttons" and thought she would just help herself to a handful. What she did not consider was that they were Rabbits chocolate treats!!! Cue 30 mins of gagging and vomiting and making disgusting noises while me and DS nearly wet ourselves laughing!!! I think my chocolate buttons are safe for a while now. Grin

Oh Waitrose.......its lovely. I am a convert!! ANd its not that expensive, especially the essentials range which is really good and cheap and varied. No more Morrisons for me!! Swan, I recommend EVERYTHING!!
My GP is a good friend of ours, (actually he came to Waitrose with us!! Hmm) but I hate taking painkillers for more that a few days, so am trying to struggle on. Its only 8 more days so nothing more can be done any quicker, apart from me just shutting up and getting on with it.

purplewednesday · 04/11/2010 18:38

PA I haven't been to the isle of wight since i was a teenager. A group of us did a walk around the edge of the Island - great fun when you discover that the footpath doesn't exist any more because of erosion! And I love waitrose too. Grin

swanriver · 04/11/2010 18:45

Parents' eve x 3 the worst behaved is the best behaved apparently Grin can't say any of them are doing particularily well alas. Ds1 last had his teacher in yr 3, and now has her again in yr 6 and I was so looking forward to her saying "he's a transformed charcter"
dd's singing lesson
fed everyone again
