We are having our kitchen re-done soon and we are making space for a dishwasher. We're not buying it right away, we'll save up - but I am having fun anticipating and looking up reviews etc.

Can anyone recommend a dishwasher? DH is saying Zanussi, as his sister used to have one and apparently it was very reliable.

I've never had a dishwasher before! I'm now reading 'dishwasher' threads on here with glee, I understand it will change my life Grin

gaelicsheep if is doesn't wash and it doesn't dry, then I'd say that, even if it is better than washing by hand, then your Dishwasher ain't working properly!!!

Sorry!!!

My previous (inherited with house) was also Hotpoint and it did exactly what gaelicsheep said. Nothing came out clean or dry. It got changed for Miele. Which is a wonder.

JaynieB, does your Bosch (the one that's new and flimsier than the old one) wash properly? That's really my main thing - if I got one like gaelicsheep's which didn't properly clean the plates, DH would spend the rest of our lives saying that he told me so - he's not as red hot on getting a dishwasher as I am. I found a Bosch online which is around £300 and wondered if it would be good or not.

Thanks again everyone - I love hearing about dishwashers now Blush

We've just bought a Bosch one. Consulted which? and it came up really well for the price. Can't remember the model name but we got it from bennetts online. V quiet.

gaelicsheep · 16/10/2010 22:44

One thing I'll say for our Hotpoint one is it is really quiet. You'd barely know it was on, and that's not on its silent setting. We have an open plan kitchen/living room so that was the most important thing of all for us.

It does wash most things well, just not when stuff is really dried on. I'm still pleased with it!

And even if things haven't quite come clean they're a doddle to finish off by hand since it's already been softened. I bet there isn't a dishwasher in the world that could really and truly get anything clean first time.

PS We get more problems when DH has stacked it!

The Bosch one we have - a Exxcel model does clean perfectly well. I'm happy with how well it does the job. I'm just nitpicking about the quality in comparison to the old one - its a perfectly good machine and is in daily use without once (so far) breaking down.

As bumperlicious says, consult Which? website.

JaynieB is right, Bosch arent quite what they were years ago but still not bad. We've got a Miele now (I wanted the tray for cutlery when we were choosing and they were the only ones doing it at the time).

Definitely the best quality we've ever had, and as has been said, soooooooo quiet. You can save loads by shopping around on the internet.
