We're considering of moving to Chignal road. Little one will be taking C2 Bus from St Andrews church to Grammer school.
Is Chignal raod area good and would it be affected by Melboune avenue ?
Is drugs etc are more around shops in Melboune Avenue ? Which streets in Melboune Chelmsford we should avoid ? is it unsafe during football matches time ?

Please help! we're not sure if we've to consider Chignal road.

Hi OP, I live around there. Chignal Road is fine, lots of nice houses but busy so road noise will be an issue. Melbourne really isn't that bad nowadays - it had problems 20-odd years ago and Melbourne shops are certainly not lovely, but it's fine and not dangerous. At worst you might get a few lads pretending to be roadmen and the odd drunk. I go there fairly regularly with my child for the post office and hairdressers - it's run-down but fine. Same applies to Trent Road shops. You've got Morrisons nearby if you want something a bit more middle-market. Melbourne park is also fine, I probably wouldn't walk through it at night alone, but I cycle through on my way home from work at 7pm-ish and have never had any trouble or been worried. You occasionally get people doing drug deals as you do in any parks and can often smell cannabis, but they're harmless.

It's absolutely fine around football matches, very good natured. I live very near the stadium (behind the park) and barely even notice games are on. The buses are ok, a bit unreliable as everywhere but they generally do run on time. You could look into cycling if he's confident.

I would avoid the North Avenue area if you're looking at other houses, the roads off there seem to be where the trouble most often happens now.

Bear in mind the planned Warren Farm development behind Avon Road, which might affect you during building works depending on where on Chignal you're looking, and will reduce the nearby countryside available to walk in.
