I am planning to move to Gloucester. Can anyone please tell which closest place to city centre is safe to live at the same time conveyance access to primary, higher secondary and college. Near Asda is it good place to live?

Near Asda is rather a dump. Much of Gloucester is. Kingsholm is ok.

Wolfiefan · 03/04/2023 17:28

Do you have to be in the centre?

Mooovingonout · 03/04/2023 17:53

Hempsted, Linden, parts of Quedgeley?

Centre near Asda is a dump I agree Wink

There's also longlevens, hucclecote, churchdown??

DO NOT recommend tredworth, Barton, kingsway, White City, coney hill, kingsholm.

Barnwood.

It depends on your budget, of course. I have family in Kingsholm, which is quite mixed, but has a very good primary school.

Nowhere near Asda. I don't even like going into that Asda.

Longlevens, Abbeymead, Abbeydale, Quedgeley, Churchdown, Hucclecote - all nice and safe.

I worked in Brockworth and it was fine. Looked at houses there when I was buying.

Avoid - Barton, Tredworth, Matson, White City, Podsmead, Kingsholm, Kingsway, Coney Hill.

Tuffley isn't terrible, but some places are nicer than others.

I used to live in Hardwicke and don't rate it. Always felt a bit "rough".

Hempsted has nice houses but that's where the dump is so I'd avoid for the smell alone.

I don't know enough about Barnwood, Robinswood, Saintbridge or Elmbridge so no idea.

It would help to know your budget.

I might be getting my area's mixed up. When I said Kingsholme I meant the area at the bottom of Westgate St going towards King's School.
Denmark St School is a short walk away.

Admittedly I've not lived there for quite a few yrs!

Tuffley isn't too bad depending where you are, Beaufort School is ok. Avoid Podsmead!

Not exactly centre, but reachable in centre with in 30 min via public transport.

Depends on your budget, but quedgeley/hardwicke/kingsway/huntsgrove all have their good/bad bits, but within 30m of centre and also close to M5 and more rural areas and the canal etc. There are 4 supermarkets and loads of good schools.

itsserendipity · 05/04/2023 06:39

Parts of Kingsholm are ok, much of it is really rank. The noise from the stadium is also SO loud, it's hard to get any peace on match days. Parking is also a nightmare.

Longlevens
Churchdown

exLtEveDallas · 05/04/2023 07:26

Tuffley off the Grange Road is good, and you’ll have the choice of Beaufort (Comp) or St Peter’s (Catholic), Ribston (girls) and Crypt (boys) secondary schools. Tuffley around Bodiam Ave also really good. Buses are every 10 mins or so and takes around 30 mins to town.

Robinswood is very safe but more pricey. Stroud Road same.

I like Hempstead, haven’t found it smelly, but that May have changed

lorisparkle · 05/04/2023 07:36

Just in case you are looking at secondary schools / Beaufort School 'closed' and was replaced by Holmleigh Park.

Glouscestehouse · 05/04/2023 11:38

Berkeley Street, is it good place. I am looking for apartment for rent (upto £800)

Wouldn't live there if you gave it to me. But I'm not you, and you're not me.

It's a city centre. Every bench is full of drunks. But Cafe Rene is good for a rave so there's that 🙈

I have 3 kids and like rural so I'm out in a little village between Chelt and Glos. If you need to be in the centre then the flat will be fine. If you want more space and want to use transport then go Longlevens/Hucclecote/Barnwood.

exLtEveDallas · 05/04/2023 15:45

Berkeley is not bad, close to Bearland (police stn) so quite safe, although you’d be in prime position to hear sirens! Nothing much around there though, and nowhere for kids to go really. How old are your kids?

Glouscestehouse · 06/04/2023 14:17

Kids are 7 yrs & 1 yrs
