Hi all I’ve been offered 2 mutual exchanges one to Plymouth one near barnstable, north devon is my preferred area, I’ve been trying to get a exchange to devon for over 7 years and I’m kinda thinking if the barnstable one falls through probably go for the Plymouth house just to get to devon, then possibly swap again down the line, I’ve been to devon more times then I can count and know north devon well but what’s it really like living there in the winter, and once the summer tourists have gone home, also are there jobs or is it as hard as everywhere else, I need some general living there advice please thanks

My sister made a similar move. She likes being near the sea and the weather.

She dislikes that everything is an hour's drive away (her words, not mine), the quality of local schools, the congestion in summer, local job opportunities, the lack of non-couples socialising and friends not really having the money to go out for dinner etc as much.

She's happy she made the move but it's not perhaps as idyllic as it looks.

(Should add, she's on the North Devon/Cornwall border)

Lots of horses in Devon!
Plymouth has some very difficult drug-ridden areas. I would look carefully into exactly where this house swap is situated and research the crime rate for that postcode.

I live in north devon (barnstaple to be exact) having relocated from kent/essex area and I do love it here. I spent alot of time in plymouth and honestly I wouldnt recommend it to anyone or if you do REALLY research the area's, barnstaple however is beautiful we are 10 mins from some of the most beautiful beaches. and... also have horses down here. I am wanting to move back nearer to kent now but this is nothing to do with the area its simply due to needing family support. If you have specific questions to barnstaple do let me know
