Mainland Spain (coast) - recommendations

I'm looking for a nice walkable resort/town to take my parents (75ish, reasonably mobile) and our kids (9 and 11) in May half-term. It'd be great to have a walkable prom/beachfront, maybe a couple of playgrounds, some nice cafes and restaurants in an old town maybe.

For context, we're after half board or full board (don't drink much so not much point in AI unless it's a similar price in a mid-range hotel with a couple of pools, ideally mini golf, table tennis etc. We don't need a spa or kids clubs.

Under an hour's drive from an airport would be good, although we probably won't hire a car so some public transport would be handy in case we want to do any trips out/exploring, although I know from experience that both my parents and the kids will be perfectly happy with endless Uno, swimming and faffing about at the hotel!

We've enjoyed Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, and Peguera in Mallorca, and I haven't ruled out the Balearics this ume but wondered if we were missing anything on the mainland? The deals there seem to come up generally a bit cheaper.

Tarifa, and pop over to Tangier for the day.
Two continents in one holiday.
